It’s time again to Drop Your Drawers at Jessamine County Public Library. This year’s underwear drive, benefiting Jessamine County Schools (JCS), is available November 15, 2022, through January 15, 2023.

Easily recognized by the popular character of Captain Underpants by author and illustrator Dav Pilkey, the Drop Your Drawers campaign collects donations of new underpants for children. Donations are then distributed to public schools in the area based on the needs of each school.

Schools hand out dozens of pairs a month to children who need clean underwear due to accidents at school or issues at home. When parents are unable to bring fresh underwear to their children during school hours, children can miss valuable learning time in the classroom. Donations to JCPL’s Drop Your Drawers underwear drive help replenish emergency supplies at Family Resource Centers throughout Jessamine County Schools so that kids can be comfortable, confident learners.

JCPL has participated in this Kentucky-wide initiative since 2016 when over 660 individual pairs of underwear were donated and given to JCS Family Resource Centers. In 2021, 850 individual pairs were collected from 30 donors. This year, the library’s goal is to receive 1,000 pairs.

Through January 15, donations are accepted at the JCPL Customer Service Desk inside the main library at the Nicholasville location. Donations should be new and in original packaging. Preferred sizes are 4 through 16 for both boys and girls. Each package of underwear donated earns the donor a drawing entry for a $50 Visa gift card. Donors can also receive “I dropped my drawers at the library!” stickers while supplies last and have their donation recognized if they choose.
