Summer Mountjoy Blair, APRN, has joined CHI Saint Joseph Medical Group – Primary Care in Wilmore. Blair comes to Saint Joseph after several years working as a family nurse practitioner at Ephraim McDowell Family and Internal Medicine practice in Danville.

After graduating from Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carolina, Blair spent a year as a substitute teacher, and considered a career in interior design, but ultimately entered nursing and cared for patients in a hospital emergency department. Blair found an inspiration for her future when she discovered the endless possibilities that came with becoming an APRN.

“One of the big things that attracted me to medicine, specifically nursing, was all the opportunities as a nurse in the hospital.” said Blair. “What I like best, from a primary care standpoint, is being able to talk to my patients and get to know them a little more than I could in the hospital.”

Blair earned a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and art history from Wofford College in 2006 before continuing her education to Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond, where she earned her degree in nursing from EKU’s Second Degree Nursing Program in 2009. She earned a Master of Science in Nursing – Rural Health Family Nurse Practitioner from EKU in 2016.

Blair’s health care career started in Lexington at Saint Joseph Hospital where she served as an RN in the emergency department. She joined Ephraim McDowell Family and Internal Medicine as a family nurse practitioner in 2016. She is a board certified FNP-BC by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. She also has certifications in advanced cardiac life support, trauma nursing, and pediatric emergency nursing.

Blair says her goal is to improve the health of her patients. “I try to take a preventive approach and make sure my patients know what their options are,” she said. “I like to work together with my patients to figure out the best care for them. I am always open to listening to their perspective.”

In her free time, Blair and her husband Nick enjoy the outdoors and like to run with their two daughters.

Blair is accepting new patients and will practice at 200 Rice St. in Wilmore. For more information, call 859.858.9355.
