A West Jessamine student has donated blankets to a trio of local organizations in an attempt to “Cover Up Kentucky.”

Abigail Sears started the project during her time as a 2021 Rogers Scholar working on a service project called “Cover Up Kentucky”. Sears donated 140 blankets she received to the Jessamine County Homeless Shelter, the Jessamine County Animal Shelter and Southland Church’s Lexington Campus

“This project is a big impact to those who I donate to, and getting to see the joy in their faces when I delivered the blankets made me realize that many people take what they have for granted,” Sears said.

Working on the project was an eye-opening experience for Sears.

“This project has opened my eyes, in a way that I should always do what I can to help my community, and that I am very blessed to have what I do,” she said.

The Rogers Scholars program is run by the Center for Rural Development and its graduates are required to complete a community service project. For more information about the program, visit www.centeryouthprograms.com.
