The Office of Jessamine County Judge/Executive David K. West and the Jessamine County Fiscal Court, Jessamine County Public Library, and the CARE Council are pleased to invite residents and visitors to the 2022 Black History Month Celebration at the Jessamine County Public Library on Saturday, February 26 from 11 AM-2 PM.

The theme of this year’s event is “History at Home!”

“Each year during the Black History Month Celebration, we invite representatives of one local church to come and tell us about their history, who they are, and what role they play in the Jessamine County community. The CARE Council will present a plaque to recognize their church’s important involvement and efforts. This year, we are honored to feature Marble Creek Baptist Church,” event organizer Anna Kenion said. “In addition to learning about the church and its deep roots in our community, we’ll be treated to a performance by their choir.”

The event schedule is:
• 11AM-12PM: Welcome and introductions. A box lunch, courtesy of Jessamine County Fiscal Court, will be provided during this time. Box lunches will be provided on a first come, first serve basis.

• 12PM-12:45PM: Performances by Stage One Theater, a professional theater group based in Louisville, Kentucky, and sponsored by the Jessamine County Public Library. The group will offer dramatizations of scenes from three books:
Amazing Grace by Mary Hoffman (story of a young girl who overcomes racial stereotypes) Mae Among the Stars by Roda Ahmed (inspired by the story of Mae Jemison, the first African American woman in space) Henry’s Freedom Box by Ellen Levine (fictionalized account of a slave’s escape to freedom)

• 12:45-1PM: Break and announcements

• 1PM-1:20 PM: Marble Creek Baptist Church recognition/performance

• 1:25PM-2PM: Camp Nelson National Monument presentation, followed by closing remarks Marble Creek Baptist Church and Camp Nelson National Monument will also have tables set up throughout the Black History Month Celebration program.
