Richard Clifton Carl, Jr., 80, passed away Tuesday, February 15, 2022, in Nicholasville with his daughter, Barbie, and son-in-law, Gerald, by his side. He was born July 9, 1941, to the late Richard Clifton Carl, Sr., and Frances Carl. He was a long-time owner of Carl’s Air Service at Cynthiana-Harrison County Airport in Cynthiana. He was a proud Veteran of the United States Army, 101st Airborne Division, and a member of Patriot Guard Riders of Kentucky. Governor Steven L. Beshear recognized him as a Commissioned Kentucky Colonel on January 2, 2011. In the past, he was a long-term member and President of the 10-4 Radio Club and the Lions Club in Nicholasville, KY. He is survived by a sister, Linda Carl Hoskins (Jim), two daughters, Barbara “Barbie” Carl Abney (Gerald), and Naomi Carl James (Harry), multiple nieces and nephews, five grandchildren, Angela Prigge, Matthew Abney, Jenni Haynes, Christopher Carl, and Anthony Brown, a step-granddaughter, Elisha Sanders, as well as multiple great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his ex-wife and Love of his Life, Norma Jean Carl, and his parents, Richard Clifton Carl, Sr. and Frances Lee Carroll Carl, his sisters, Patricia Ann Masters and Brenda Faye Carl Maillet, and his Darling Baby Girl. Services will be 1:00 PM, Tuesday, February 22, 2022, at Betts & West Funeral Home. Casket bearers will be Wayne Brooks, Jim Hoskins, Serf Robles, Bobby Craft, Doug Jackson, and Eric Prigge. Honorary bearers will be all friends from Cynthiana-Harrison County Airport and Patriot Guard Riders. Burial will follow at Bluegrass Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until the time of service, Tuesday. Betts & West is honored to serve the Carl family in their time of need.
