Patsy Ann Teater Benton, 89, went home to be with her Lord and Savior peacefully on January 15, 2022 in Tampa, Florida. She was born in Nicholasville, Kentucky on January 14, 1933. She is survived by her daughter Julie Ann Benton Nipp (Bob) of Tampa, FL, grandsons Chandler Nipp and Brooks Nipp of whom she was so proud and loved dearly, her sister Doris Teater Cobb of Nicholasville, Ky and many other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her loving husband L.F. “Tis” Benton, parents William Bradley Teater and Christine Brooks Teater, brothers Robert Elliot Teater, William Floyd Teater and Kirby Teater. Patsy, known as “Pat” by family and friends, was a 1950 graduate of Nicholasville High School and then graduated from what is now Eastern Kentucky University with a teaching degree. She taught in Nicholasville and in Clarksdale, Mississippi before moving back to Kentucky. After her short teaching career she became a certified Genealogist and even co-authored a book called The Kentucky Teater Family. She loved to talk about genealogy and even taught classes per-taining to genealogy and ancestry research in Lexington. Pat had a gift of remembering family history, facts, dates and stories about her ancestors and she loved to share these with her fami-ly and friends. Pat was a very involved member of the Lexington Chapter of Daughters of the American Revolution, serving as chapter regent from 1992-1995 and she was also the chapter registrar for several terms. She served on the veteran advisory volunteer service board at the Lexington Veterans Administration. In addition, she served the Kentucky society DAR as the third district director from 1989-1992. Pat was an organizing member of the Dean-Parker chapter National Society Daughters of the Union where she served as chapter regent and on the national board of the NSDU. Friends from these organizations refer to her fondly as their men-tor and welcoming to everyone. Pat was an active member of Southern Hills United Methodist Church in Lexington, KY until she moved to Florida in 2001 to be closer to her daughter and family. Her hobbies included watching Kentucky basketball, Tampa Bay Rays baseball games, crocheting, making jewelry and coloring adult coloring books and talking to everyone she met. The family would like thank the Fairway Oaks Nursing Home staff, especially Jeannine Black, who tirelessly gave of herself to provide care and compassion above and beyond. Donations may be made in her memory to Southern Hills United Methodist Church youth group. Service will be at Southern Hills United Methodist Church and burial will take place at Camp Nelson National Cemetery in the Spring with Rev. Dennis Burrows and Rev. Lewis Ricketts officiating.
