Barry Lee Dickinson, of Wilmore, Kentucky went to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, August 23, 2021. He was 89 years old. Barry is survived by Joyce, his wife of 59 years, his two children David (and his wife Connie) and Jennifer (and her husband Byron), and five grandchildren: Jonathan, Aubrianna, Nathanael, Christopher, and Benjamin. He is also survived by his sister, Margaret, while their other sister, Fran, preceded him in death. Barry was born in Aberdeen, Washington in 1932 and as a young boy moved to Cabin John, Maryland. He studied chemical engineering at Johns Hopkins University, graduating in 1953 and then went to work for Union Carbide in Bound Brook, NJ. His career was interrupted in 1956 when he contracted tuberculosis and spent 18 months in a sanatorium. He met Joyce in 1960 at a young peoples’ gathering at Echo Lake, PA and they were married on July 21, 1962. Barry continued to follow his passion as a research scientist working on a variety of specialized plastics which resulted in the award of 15 patents. Barry collaborated with the same team of people through his entire career, although that unit was sold to Amoco, then BP and finally to Solvay. He retired in 1991, but continued to consult until age 75. Barry and Joyce and their family lived most of their life in New Jersey, moving to Alpharetta, GA in 1990 as part of the transition to work for Amoco, then Sun City Hilton Head in 1998. Finally, they settled in Wilmore, KY in 2006 to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Barry was known for his faithfulness to his wife and family, his generosity to his community, and his deep dedication to and enjoyment of his work. He also served in different roles in a number of churches, but especially in Calvary Bible Church in Readington, NJ, where he first became a follower of Christ.
