Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Have you ever looked around, and just realized how truly blessed that you are?

I know that as a mom, and truth be told as anyone, sometimes it can be difficult to see past the spit up stains, past the screaming in the car and past the thousand times of “mom,” and still manage to see the blessings.

Trust me, I have been on both sides of the fence here.

I have been the mom thinking, “What did I do to deserve this?” as I am literally near pulling my hair out, and I have been the mom crying, “What did I do to deserve this?” as I am watching my children accomplish some amazing feat.

Truth be told, at the end of the day, I am thankful.

At the end of the day, after we have had breakdowns, after the teeth are brushed and the toothpaste is spread all over my counter, I find myself counting my blessings

Not too long ago, I was the mom wondering when things would ever manage to go my way.

As I looked around me, and let’s be honest focused on what everyone else seems to have, I was bummed out about what I did not have.

I was watching as people were buying new houses, getting nicer cars and getting promotions at work. Part of me was watching, desperately thinking, “When is it my turn?” and “It just isn’t fair.”

Whether you want to admit it or not, deep down most of you have been on this side of the fence.

Despite how overwhelmingly happy you are for those around you, as things seem to be constantly going their way, truthfully, you just want it to be your turn.

There’s a saying that goes, “The grass is always greener on the other side.”

Sitting on my side of the fence, I was enviously watching, thinking about how much better the other grass looked.

We’ve all been there. Usually we are just stuck in a rut or are just enjoying our pity party.

A couple of years ago, I found myself praying for a new job.

I had completed a higher degree, and wanted the chance to utilize it. After numerous “nos,” I was at a point that I just wanted God to move.

I found myself regularly praying, “God you know the desires of my heart.”

There are moments where we don’t really know what we need or what we want. In those moments, all we can truly say is “God you know.”

I had never felt that statement as strongly as I did when I began to pray, “God you know the desires of my heart.”

I started to pray that God would simply put me where I was supposed to be. I had so many wants and so many thoughts about where I thought that the future should lead me, but I was open to whatever God wanted in my life.

I think that this is the moment where it changed. This was the moment where God started to really move.

Today, as we are in the middle of this pandemic and many of us are stuck between going to work or protecting our loved ones, I am among the lucky ones.

I had always jokingly said, “Can someone just pay me to stay at home with the kids?”

And believe me, I had applied for the remote positions that allow that option.

Currently, I sit in my home office, on my computer. Currently, I am able to enjoy the best of both worlds. I am a mom of two wonderful boys, and my career is better than ever.

This past week, God has really reminded me of how blessed that I am.

When I look at my house, I see a home. A home filled to the brim with love and laughter.

This past week, my 5-year-old, who does not like to be hugged, has allowed me to hug him goodnight more than once.

This week, I have worked, played with my boys, watched movies and enjoyed every moment of the “mom.”

Not too long ago, I was extremely focused on what everyone else had.

Now, I am counting my blessings and finding myself growing more and more thankful for everything with which God has blessed me.

Today, as you’re taking inventory on your own life, focus more on what you have and less on what you don’t have.
