As the number of new cases of the coronavirus continues to rise across Kentucky, Jessamine County is nearing the 200-case mark.

Tuesday afternoon, the Jessamine County Health Department reported 192 total COVID-19 cases in the county’s history. Six of those were listed as new cases, and three patients remain in the hospital.

Of the total cases, 49 were listed as active and 143 as recovered.

COVID-19 testing continues with nearly 150 people tested last week and 3,112 tests administered in total. Less than 2 percent of those tested have been positive, and most of those have been asymptomatic, according to the department.

The department has been offering free COVID-19 testing for about two months to anyone who shows at least one of the symptoms: a fever above 100.4 degrees, a dry cough, diarrhea or shortness of breath.

The bulk of Jessamine County’s COVID-19 patients are younger than 40, with nearly 50 cases in the 18 to 30 age range and more than 30 cases in the 31 to 40 group. The rest are spread throughout the age groups.

The growth of the virus in the state led Gov. Andy Beshear to restrict groups to a maximum of 10 people and recommend those traveling to certain hot spots self-quarantine themselves for 14 days after returning home.

To be tested at the Health Department, complete an online screening or call the department for the screening. The department will then schedule the test.
