Another dozen cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in Jessamine County in the last week, as the virus continues to spread in Kentucky.

According to the Jessamine County Health Department, there have now been 97 cases of the coronavirus since the first was discovered in March.

About a third of the Jessamine County cases were in people between the ages of 18 and 30. That age group has long had the most cases, and was the first group to surpass 30 cases, according to the Health Department’s reports.

None of the other age groups have passed the 20-case mark yet.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the department said it has tested 2,104 people for the coronavirus, including 187 in the past week.

To date, 28 people, or 1.4 percent, of those tested at the JCHD have been positive. Another 1,969 were negative and 107 tests are listed as pending Tuesday afternoon.

Monday. Gov. Andy Beshear said there were 90 new cases in Kentucky, but no new deaths related to the virus. There have now been 13,839 cases in Kentucky and 526 deaths.

Phase three of the state’s reopening is set to begin Monday, with businesses being allowed to increase to 50 percent capacity and gatherings can increase to 50 people.

JCHD continues to offer free COVID-19 testing for those with one of the symptoms: a dry cough, fever over 100 degrees, diarrhea or shortness of breath. People can complete an online assessment or over the phone, and health department employees will schedule an appointment for testing.
