With the national and state discussions turning to restarting the economy, the Nicholasville City Council created a task force to ease the local transition.

During a special meeting Tuesday, Commissioner Alex Carter said the task force would be made of a number of people including small business owners from around the city including restaurants, health care, barber shops and hair salons, and faith-based organizations.

“The governor is putting out recommendations (for re-opening),” Carter said. “We want to be a voice of communication for small business in our community.”

Carter and Commissioner Doug Blackford said neither the city nor the task force will be developing new rules.

“We’re not going to do anything the governor doesn’t allow us to do,” Blackford said. “We know things won’t be exactly the same when we reopen. Our goal is a smooth transition to open our community back up.”

Michael Wayne, who was appointed as the city’s emergency management coordinator during Tuesday’s meeting, said he and other city officials have copies of the president’s three-phase plan to restart the economy and he expected Gov. Andy Beshear’s plan to mirror the president’s.

The task force was approved unanimously.
