The Nicholasville City Commission approved the first reading of a rezoning ordinance to allow a new storage facility on Brannon Road.

The vote was unanimous during Monday’s regular commission meeting.

The ordinance will rezone slightly more than two acres on East Brannon Road, between Lancer Drive and Providence Way, from B-2 highway business to I-1 light industrial.

Nicholasville Mayor Pete Sutherland said the building will be three stories and will be built near Drake’s in Brannon Crossing. It will also be near the planned Hampton Inn, he said.

Nicholasville Planning Director Dean Anness said the matter was approved unanimously by the planning commission Jan. 27.

The matter will be official following a second affirmative vote by the city commission.

The commissioners also approved a resolution for Sutherland to sign the annual state municipal aid agreement with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. Sutherland said the funds are provided annually to the county, but the city gets a percentage to help maintain city streets.

In other action, the commission:

— approved street closure requests for the Jessamine Fall Festival Sept. 25-26.

— approved a street closure request for York Street for the Make Music Day June 23.

— authorized the release of a letter of credit for Fairview Farm.

— authorized a lien release for 113 W. Brown St.

— approved the transfer of Damian Rucker from the water department to the wastewater treatment plant.

— approved the transfer of Travis Steward to detective in the Nicholasville Police Department.

— approved the transfer of Larry Bruner to officer in the Nicholasville Police Department.

— met in closed session for 21 minutes to discuss proposed or pending litigation. No action was taken after the commission returned to open session.
