State highway officials included nearly $60 million in road projects for Jessamine County in the latest six-year road plan.

The plan, as released, covers project through fiscal year 2026.

In Jessamine County, the projects range from $18,000 to install guardrails along Kentucky 1268 to more than $37 million to widen and improve Brannon Road from U.S. 27 to Harrodsburg Road.

It also includes $16.9 million to add another section of the Nicholasville Bypass, from Kentucky 39 to Kentucky 169. That project is scheduled for FY 2022.

Jessamine County Judge-Executive David West said the third section of the bypass, estimated at $38 million, has not been funded yet.

“We want that to go on,” he said.

The plan also includes $1.2 million in construction funds to rework the ‘Y’ intersection at Kentucky 29 north of Wilmore in FY 2021. West said the property has already been acquired and is ready for construction to begin.

The big project will be widening Brannon Road across from Brannon Crossing. The state budgeted $20.5 million in FY 2022 for relocating utilities and obtaining rights-of-way. Another $16.88 million was slated for construction in FY 2026.

That project may have the biggest impact and be the most complicated, West said. There has been talk of widening Brannon Road to three lanes, he said, where the current two-lane road winds and flows through the country and over hills.

“There’s not country traffic on that road any more,” West said. “I think that (project) was pondered before Brannon to Tates Creek Road.”

One of the complicating factors, he said, is the number of homes built close to the road, as well as a church which is planning to build along the road as well.

Other projects on the list include $1 million to widen AShgrove Road in FY 2022, $2.1 million for repairs to a bridge on Kentucky 1238 in FY 2020 and $1.5 million for a bridge on North Third Street in FY 2020.
