— Directors of The Farmers Bank Nicholasville announced the retirement of R.D. Jeter as executive vice president and chairman of the board. Acceptance of the retirement puts the Nicholasville businessman on the sidelines for the first time since he took over the Bank of Creelsboro at the age of 20 in 1920.

— Nicholasville City County convened with new Mayor Shelby Combs making administrative appointments and the Council transacting a full schedule of business.

— Business at the Jessamine County Fiscal Court meeting included refusal to act on a City of Nicholasville overture to join with Wilmore and Jessamine County in a joint-county planning commission.

Jan. 13, 2000

— Sierra Skye Eckler, daughter of Lisa Harris and Jerry Eckler of Wilmore, was born Jan. 2, 2000, at Central Baptist Hospital. She was the first Jessamine baby born in the year 2000.

— Law enforcement officers will be seeing a closer watch over Maple Grove Cemetery as a result of recent incidences of vandalism.

— No cats allowed. Canines are still the only customers at Sue’s Precious Pet Grooming, formerly Precious Pets in Nicholasville. Susan Kelch bought the business after owner Nan Evans passed away.

— Seniors Gush Sherrow and Jarrod Polson each scored 21 points for West Jessamine as the Colts earned the road victory against cross-town rival East Jessamine, 88-81.

— For years, the bell at the Jessamine Early Learning Village has rung before noon, signaling the end of the school day for the morning kindergartners. Next year, every student could be waiting until 2:30 p.m. to hear it ring. The Jessamine County School District plans on expanding its kindergarten program to a full day for the first time.

— The construction of the new dam near the Valley View Ferry is nearly completed after being slowed by a wet summer. The project began nearly three years ago, and the pool the dam holds is the main water supply for Lexington.
