The window to file to run for a seat on the Nicholasville City Commission closes Friday, a couple weeks sooner than usual.

The filing deadline changed statewide this year, and ends at the close of business Friday.

According to the Jessamine County Clerk’s office, only three people had filed for the commission as of Monday afternoon: incumbents Alex Carter and Betty Black and Michael Garrett.

This year’s local election will include four seats on the Nicholasville Commission, all seats on the Wilmore City Council and some of the seats on the Jessamine County Board of Education.

The latter two races, though, don’t have to file their paperwork until June.

Jessamine County’s two state representatives are up for re-election as well. Republican Kim King of Harrodsburg is the only candidate for the District 55 seat, according to the Kentucky Secretary of State’s office Tuesday. District 55 includes Mercer and Washington counties and part of Jessamine County.

For the District 39 seat for parts of Jessamine and Fayette counties presently filled by Democrat Russ Meyer, two Republican candidates have filed in Jay Corman and Matt Lockett, both of Nicholasville.
