Residents in Jessamine County now have access to physiotherapy from Results Physiotherapy, a facility which opened Nov. 4 and specializes in hands-on care for a variety of needs.
Located at 602 Keene Center Drive in Nicholasville, and situated behind Raising Canes and Citizens National Bank, Results PT will be hosting a ribbon-cutting event on Dec. 3 at 6 P.M. Clinical director Carmen Wurtz, PT, DPT, said anyone interested in learning more about the clinic is welcome. Wurtz said there will be food as well as other physical therapists on-site for the event.
Wurtz said physiotherapy is a term that originated in Australia to mean hands-on therapy.
“It’s physical therapy but with a hands-on component,” Wurtz said. “When this company was established in Franklin, Tennessee, the founder decided to keep that name.”
When she was 16 years old, Wurtz suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament injury, ACL, while playing sports. Since then, Wurtz said she wanted to be a physical therapist.
“I was in shock that people would get paid to play with kids and help athletes feel better,” Wurtz said. “I think it’s cool that I get to come to work and make people feel better. It never gets old seeing somebody come out of pain so quickly.”
Receptionist Ashley Dalcin said physiotherapy can treat more than most people expect.
“A lot of people don’t think to go to physical therapy for headaches, issues with eating or drinking or dizziness,” Dalcin said. “We can treat almost anything.”
Wurtz said most of their clients suffer from lower back pain or neck pain.
Patients can visit Results PT with or without a doctor’s referral, and Wurtz said screenings are free.
“Kentucky is a direct access state,” Wurtz said. “People do not need a script from a physician unless their insurance requires it. About half of our clientele is by direct access.”
After the initial paperwork is completed by a first-time client, Wurtz said she will answer any questions and review the areas of concern.
“Based on things that are abnormal, we will cater the plan specifically to the client’s needs,” Wurtz said.
One area of therapy Wurtz focuses on is dance rehabilitation.
“I’m working with a lot of the studios in Nicholasville and Lexington,” Wurtz said. “We have specialized equipment that works specifically for dancers.”
One tool Wurtz uses is the Pilates Reformer, which is a full-body machine.
“It incorporates core stability,” Wurtz said. “We can do upper body or lower body exercises. I’ve used it on almost every patient. It’s not just for ballet dancers but also for those who need balance strengthening exercises.”
In addition to the tools provided at Results PT, Wurtz said clients are given exercises to practice at home.
“I want people to get better as quickly as possible,” Wurtz said. “Depending on how they tolerate the exercise, we will decide on what gets sent home with them. There’s usually homework from day one.”
Wurtz said the homework extends to physical therapists working for Results PT.
“There’s a lot of education that happens within the company,” Wurtz said. “There’s four-times more for our clinicians than the industry standard. There is a lot of emphasis on manual therapy and making the patients better as quickly as possible.”
Wurtz said Results PT has multiple locations that allow for the continuation of care to be given for one patient between doctors and Results PT has 155 locations across the country and five clinics in Kentucky.
“If I’m covering for another clinician from another location, the patient can come and still get the same treatment,” Wurtz said.
