Car club shows off all makes and models for auto enthusiasts

This Saturday, Wicked Ways Car Club will show off all makes and models for the car lover in everyone.

The club was founded in 1999 by Shannon and Houston Steenbergen. The group disbanded in the early 2000s, but Shannon said they have been going full-speed ahead for the last two years. The club currently has about 40 members and 20 cars at any given show.

From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Wicked Ways Car Club will be displaying vehicles at 210 E. Walnut St. Those who attend will be able to enter the car show from York Street.

Proceeds will benefit the Jessamine County Homeless Coalition. The first 50 vehicles entered will each receive dash plaques. Club members will act as judges throughout the day and will be walking around inspecting the vehicles entered and will select one as Best of Show.

“We’re all about giving back to the community,” Shannon Said. “We don’t ask our members to pay dues. All we ask is that when we go to an event, they all get along with each other and be active participants throughout the event.”

The Top 25 awards have been donated by Jan and Bud White.

There will also be raffles for Chuy’s Mexican Restaurant and Ramsey’s Restaurant, among other prizes throughout the day.

Wicked Ways Car Club will also have a booth in the vendor area near the courthouse where they will sell their logoed t-shirts for $20 where $4 of each sale will also be donated to charity.

As the club’s president, Shannon said she organizes all the club’s event, many of which are fundraisers for charities.

Houston is more behind the scenes, but still an integral part of the operation of the club, she said. He crafts many of the awards by hand in his shop and is extremely active in the physical running of the shows.

Just this month, the Steenbergen’s Chevy Silverado won Top 10 at the Cruisin’ for a Cause event. Shannon said club members enjoy each other’s company outside of car shows as well.

“We love our cars, but it’s about far more than car shows for our members,” Shannon said. “We like to have fun. This weekend, we went skating at Champs. But we combine fun with giving to charities and helping local businesses.”
