Moonlight Fields Wedding Farm in Jessamine County has everything from rustic to elegant

Moonlight Fields Wedding Farm in Jessamine County has something for every bride’s taste from, rustic to elegant.
Thirteen years ago, Moonlight Fields owners Lori and Roger Fields turned their farmland, located at 5028 Ashgrove Road which previously housed Tennessee Walking Horses, into a venue for Kentucky weddings.
As guests enter Moonlight Fields Wedding Farm, they’ll drive past Lori and Roger’s home.
While for some on-site owners, having their private residence’s driveway shared with a never-ending flow of wedding guests might be a distraction, Lori and Roger said they think of their guests like family.
“We did have to put a little sign up saying that it is a private residence, because we tell our brides and grooms that they’re always welcome here, so sometimes they mistook our home for one of the venue’s many buildings,” Lori said.
Parking is plentiful, Lori said, and parking attendants are available for every event. The Bride’s Suite is located in the first building on the tour. A well-appointed room, the space is where the bride and her attendants can dress and it boasts a velvet sofa, full-length mirror and comfortable chairs.
“I’ve been in this business for a long time,” Lori said.
“I’ve seen it all and I’m prepared for every eventuality. My number one priority is to keep the bride calm. When she realizes she’s forgotten something at home, or a stitch pops on her dress, I’m at the ready with a sewing kit, a can of hairspray or whatever she needs.”
Lori recalled one occasion when the bride accidentally spilled red nail polish on one of the bridesmaid’s gown.
“In a very quiet, calm voice, I just told her it wasn’t a problem and that I’d fix it – and I did,” Lori said. “I used a soft, clean cloth and some acetone I had in the Décor Shed for a craft project. Catastrophe averted. No one was any the wiser.”
Roger is especially proud of the next room where a sign boasts, “The Man Cave.” The room is painted in masculine black and red with concrete floors. A bevy of pinball machines, video games, and vending machines give the groom and groomsmen a great place to dress and relax.
“Lori does all the landscaping, mowing and staging of the grounds,” Roger said.
Lori is quick to insert, “I love to be outdoors and neither of us is afraid of hard work. We’re both former military. I was in the Air Force.”
The centerpiece of the rolling pastures is the barn with the recent addition of a 75-foot extension.
The shiny steel-beamed ceiling with brass chandeliers and paved dance floor can accommodate up to 200 guests, elegantly decorated round tables or folding chairs, should inclement weather move the ceremony indoors.
If mother nature forces such a change of plans, custom blinds and shutters can also be closed to keep out rain and wind.
A DJ’s booth is located near the front entrance to the barn, where Moonlight Field’s own DJ, John Sims of Big Blue Madness, plays music selected by the bride and groom.
“We have a hard-stop on the music at 10 p.m.,” Roger said. “It’s very important to us that we respect our neighbors.”
While there is no hard liquor allowed on the property, The Love Shack is a welcoming outdoor bar built up on the hill where Moonlight Field’s own bartender, Eliza Wilde from Wilde Cravings, Inc. serves beer, wine, and champagne.
There is a white gazebo down a garden path with an antique carriage and a wishing well.
The Hummingbird Patio offers scenic fountains, a pond with waterfall, bird feeders and flowers that attract the tiny birds.
“There’s a little door through the back fence, should the groom come here to ponder his future and decide to escape,” Roger jokes.
“We’re here for our clients from the moment they meet us,” Lori said. “We support them every step of their journey. We are Christians who love the Lord and we love people. We treat everyone with honor and dignity.”
