The Jessamine Chamber of Commerce held their monthly luncheon June 11 at noon at Sam’s Club where Jessamine County Circuit Clerk Doug Fain spoke about Kentucky’s upcoming new driver’s license process.
Beginning October 1, 2020, state credentials will not be valid for U.S. air travel or visiting military bases or restricted federal facilities — only Voluntary Travel IDs will be valid for those purposes.
With the Voluntary Travel ID, a passport will still be required for international flights. Fain said when people come into the Circuit Clerk’s office to get their licenses, they will no longer be able to get them in the office. Instead, they will receive a temporary 30-day license and receive the official license by mail.
For the eight-year validity of standard credentials, driver’s licenses and motorcycle licenses will be $43, a driver/motorcycle license combo will be $53 and personal IDs will be $23.
For the eight-year validity of the Voluntary Travel ID credentials, driver’s licenses and motorcycle licenses will be $48, a driver/motorcycle license combo will be $58 and personal IDs will be $28.
