Tinkering with the ivories: Wilmore’s Wesley Village Senior Living Community resident Jim Floyd, 86, shared his hobby he’d had for 50 years, building organs. His mother was an organist, and that’s how he got interested.

Monument dedicated for Civil War soldier: The Saturday prior, about 40 people gathered for a memorial service at the gravesite of Civil War African American soldier Sgt. George Vaughn, who was from Jessamine county, to dedicate a new monument to him.
History comes to life: Over the weekend, a re-enactment of the Battle at Hickman’s Bridge at Camp Nelson would be held at Camp Nelson.
Jessamine man saves family from drowning: Nicholasville native Mark Comley saved the lives of three members of a family while on a trip to Panama City, Florida.
Cundiff first woman police commissioner: The Monday prior, Diann Cundiff received her police commissioner’s badge after being elected in November. She was the first woman to serve on the Nicholasville Board of Commissioners since Nicholasville adopted a commission form of government.
Groundbreaking for new Wilmore school: Wilmore Elementary school students, staff members and alumni would parade in downtown Wilmore to celebrate the school’s future location at 709 E. Main St.

30 years ago: May 25, 1989

McDaniel, Walker win primary races for clerk, sheriff: As a result of the primary election, Jessamine County Democrats nominated William Neal Cassity for county judge/executive, Eva Lowry McDaniel for county clerk and Joe Walker for sheriff.
JCHS expects to graduate record 340 during June 2 commencement: The largest graduating class in the history of Jessamine County High School would be awarded diplomas June 2.
Georgetown College grants degrees to 13 local students: Among 260 graduating seniors at Georgetown College, 13 were residents of Jessamine County.
40 years ago: May 31, 1979

Family community of Keene holds “Keene Day” parade, celebration: At the crossing of KY 169 and Keene Road, “Keene Day” was held May 19 for the second time in history for the community.
Major muffler manufacturing plant opens Nicholasville site in August: Donaldson Company was planning to open a Nicholasville plant in late summer at 200 Etter Drive.
Jessamine County within area where ‘Skylab’ could fall: Jessamine County was within the radius of the location where the space station Skylab could fall.

50 years ago: May 29, 1969

Incumbents Wilson, Johnson, Bruner regain county offices in primary race: Jessamine County residents reelected their county judge, clerk and jailer in the Democratic primary election while electing new people for sheriff, circuit clerk and coroner.
Administrator Dr. Y.D. Westerfield culminates 38 year Asbury career: Y.D. Westerfield, Asbury College dean of men, was to retire June 1 after 38 years at Asbury.
County’s educational direction presented by superintendent: Revised preliminary plans for the Jessamine County elementary and junior high school building got to the County School superintendent Hugh Adams’s desk the Monday prior, and the “highly original, cost-conscious” plans were met with lots of comments when he presented them.
