Lexington– The Jessamine County Coroner’s Office received an Outstanding Achievement Award for supporting organ and tissue donation at the Gift of Life Summit held on April 25 in Lexington.
Michael Hughes, Jessamine County Coroner, participated in the Summit and explained, “This mission matters to those who give, as well as those who receive, these precious gifts of life.  As coroners, it is our job to support families and our entire community, and it is our profound honor to do so. I would be remiss to not recognize my deputy coroners, Len Kirschbaum, Greg Tillery, Justice Welch, Jason Drury, D. Olivia Hughes, Carrie Niklaus, as well as our Chaplain Robert Roe – all of whom are KODA Trained Designated Requestors. Without all of their efforts, these awards would not be possible.”
At the Gift of Life Summit, awards were also given to hospital partners, circuit clerks and volunteers from the KODA and TFL service area.  Everyone is welcome to register as a donor to give hope to 1,000 Kentuckians waiting and many more in need of tissue and cornea transplants.
“The Jessamine County Coroner’s Office is among our key partners in the efforts to save and heal lives through the gift of donation and transplantation,” said Julie Bergin, President and CEO of Kentucky Organ Donor Affiliates. “We honor their partnership every day, but especially now, as we celebrate National Donate Life Month. We are so grateful for their compassion and public service work they do each and every day.”
The Gift of Life Summit celebrated saving lives through organ donation and healing lives through tissue and cornea donation.  The event was hosted by Kentucky Organ Donor Affiliates (KODA) and the Kentucky Circuit Court Clerks’ Trust For Life (TFL).
