BOE mulls over cavern options: The Jessamine County Board of Education heard a report of possible solutions for addressing the cavern found near the construction site of the East Jessamine Middle School.
Out of the darkness: Lifeline helped Fayne battle addictions. It was just over two years ago when Nicholasville’s Josh Fayne was in need of a lifeline. After years of being hooked on drugs, Fayne, 30, came to a crossroads in his life while attending a court mandated stint at the Hope Center ­— a drug rehabilitation center in Lexington. Fayne’s lifeline was a new relationship with God.

Groggin ferry decision stalled: The controversy over a proposed subdivision on farmland north of Nicholasville continues following a brief meeting of the Nicholasville Planning Commission. More than 50 residents turned out at the Rosenwald-Dunbar Elementary School gym to hear discussion of the commission about the planned subdivision and possible annexation for the property into the city.
Centre 100: The century’s best in art, music, stories: Mike Norris, Centre College’s director of communications published Centre 100, a summary of the best artists, books, musicians and movies of the 20th century.
Save-A-Lot burglaries have city police puzzled: A local crime remains unsolved and police have no suspect and no leads. But what makes the break in at the Save-A-Lot on Edgewood Drive so unusual is it appears to be the work of an unusually prolific thief.

Inner city subdivision owners aim to spare neighbor’s water hazard: Jessamine Heights Subdivision. The subject of concern surrounding property owners for over six months due to both real and imagined surface water drainage problems, is being developed with considerable effort to prevent flooding.
First seven diesel school buses added to county fleet: Seven new diesel school buses made their way into the Jessamine County School System last week. The vehicles will replace buses already in service and having a history of mechanical problems or excessive mileage.
Emergency flood damage aid for city computed at $12,000: City of Nicholasville is in line to receive $12,000 for flood damage and cleanup commissioners were advised during the bi-monthly session at city hall.

40 years ago: March 29, 1979

Jessamine County families lovingly preserve eighteenth century stone Presbyterian church: Ebenezer Reforms Presbyterian Church, believed to have been the oldest congregation in Jessamine County, has been nominated to the National Register of Historic Places.
Designer for Jessamine County excels in business of promoting, preserving towns: Mrs. Susan Jackson Keig, a graphic designer, is revisiting Jessamine County after many years of absenteeism. She is a historic preservation specialist and is known for her work on Shakers.
Jessamine County 4-H’ers dominate honors in Lincoln County: Jessamine County 4-H members came home with more than their share of the honors at the Ford Harrod Area 4-H Achievement night held recently in Lincoln County. Honors were awarded for their outstanding work in their particular project area.
School enrollment climbs 1.33 percent to 4,513: Jessamine County public school enrollment has grown 1 1/3 percent over the last 12 months.

50 years ago: March 27, 1969

Ten Jessamine natives listed on records as residents of Pleasant Hill Shaker Village: Ten natives of Jessamine County were among the inhabitants of the Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill in Mercer County. Four were teenagers, one was 11, another was 10, a seventh was a 20-day-old baby when she was taken to the Shaker community in 1842.
Wilmore Fire Department expands with $24,000 La France fire truck: Modern, beautiful and lengthy are words describing the impressive 1969 Ford American La France pumper fire truck which became part of the Wilmore Fire Department last week.
Fourteen called for induction by military since October 31: Induction of Jessamine Countians into the United States military was on the rise during the winter months. 14 were slated for induction in the five-month period.
Cecil Perkins reappointed to Spears Planning Commission: For the second time in two weeks, fiscal court magistrates met behind closed doors. Discussion centered on the Jessamine County Planning Commission. A decision was aired publicly that Cecil Perkins had been reappointed to serve on the commission.
