Staff report

Jessamine County Public Library (JCPL) announced a new partnership with NichTran, a sponsored program of Blue Grass Community Action Partnership, which will provide free bus rides via NichTran to and from JCPL for all library card holders.
Matt Kinnell, JCPL’s Operations Services Manager said, “Part of the library’s strategic plan is to develop partnerships that enhance our capacity to give our community access to the opportunities we provide. Lack of transportation is a barrier to many who could benefit from library services, so we are grateful to NichTran for partnering with us to bridge that barrier and connect library users to the important resources we offer.”
Taylor Veatch, NichTran’s Transportation Operations Manager said, “NichTran is excited to provide a free service for the patrons of the JCPL starting immediately. Public Libraries are vital to communities such as Nicholasville. Libraries provide more people with access to computers, and educational materials, helping to strengthen skills and provide more opportunities. This partnership between NichTran and JCPL is exciting for us and we look forward to meeting new riders while helping them reach free and low-cost resources.”
Any community member without a library card will have the chance to receive one free ride from NichTran to the library in order to obtain a library card. In order to obtain a library card, people must have a photo ID with their current address. Anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a legal guardian. NichTran will maintain its regular bus route and schedule, which can be found at: http://www.nichtranroute.org/. Anyone unable to get to a published stop and live within one half mile of a published stop can call NichTran at least 24-hours ahead of his/her trip and NichTran can pick him/her up at home. The phone number is 1-800-456-6588.
