Last weekend, students from Jessamine County participated in Congressman Andy Barr’s Youth Ambassador Leadership Conference in Lexington. The conference is a non-partisan, educational experience that provides students with a unique opportunity to hear directly from Kentucky leaders on their experiences in the roles in which they serve.
“It is my hope that our Youth Ambassadors will return to their schools and communities and share what they learn with their classmates and fellow Kentuckians,” Barr said.
The students are (left to right): Cole Derosett, a junior from West Jessamine High School; Tristan Gee, a junior from East Jessamine High School (back); Luke Allen, a junior from East Jessamine High School; Nathaniel Lilly, a junior from East Jessamine High School; Emily Monroe from East Jessamine High School; Julia Fitzpatrick, a junior from East Jessamine High School; and Quinton Carr, a senior from East Jessamine High School.
In addition to hearing from Barr about his work in Congress and in the Sixth Congressional District, students heard from several other speakers about their jobs and their leadership roles in the community. This year’s speakers were: Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles; Rob Perez, owner of Saul Good and DV8 Kitchen; Alex Elswick, co-founder of Voices of Hope in Lexington and Extension Specialist for Substance Use Prevention and Recovery at the University of Kentucky; Jon C. Oldham, Resident Agent in Charge with the U.S. Secret Service; and Jason Cummins, University of Kentucky Executive Associate Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Experience.
