Something new and old to share with you

Published 11:10 am Thursday, February 28, 2019

This week, we have two new features in the newspaper that will be making regular appearances.
One is the “something local” feature you can find on the front page. This week, we featured Mindy’s Jessamine County School of Classical Dance in a “dance local” feature.
Our aim here at The Jessamine Journal is to focus on residents and businesses in the community. This feature helps us highlight those among you and share the great things the local community has to offer with its residents.
Maybe some of the features will be businesses you know and already cherish visiting. Or perhaps we will show you someplace new to try and hopefully fall in love with.
Whatever the case may be, if you have an idea for us to feature in this new spotlight, please share it. We would love to hear all ideas on anyone and anything local we can highlight for other residents to explore and learn about.
Also new this week is a feature I have been wanting to add since I took my position here more than a year ago.
You can find it on page A6 weekly. Titled “Looking back,” this little new addition to the newspaper will look back over the past 50-years in the county and give brief glimpses into what was happening on this day/week in history.
I will try my best to include photographs as I search through our old records here at the office. You know what they say: “A picture is worth a thousand words,” and some of the ones I have come across are definitely worth printing again, like the ones featured this week which show a flood in the county 30 years ago in February 1989.
Besides English and writing courses, history was always one of my favorite subjects in school. I find it fascinating to look back through the archives and see the community and what was the important topics all those years ago. I hope you find it just as interesting as I do.
We will still strive to bring you all the local news we can here at The Jessamine Journal, and we hope you enjoy our new additions.
If you have a suggestion, or if you have an old photograph you would like to share on our new “Looking Back” page, please don’t hesitate to call the office or send me an email.
If anything, just drop us a line and let us know how you like the new features and how we are doing serving you, the residents.
Happy reading!
