JCS set great example of how to ensure students success

Since moving to Kentucky, I am constantly in awe of the programs many of the schools have to offer students.

Jessamine County schools are no exception. Actually, they may one of the best examples I have seen in what they offer their students for career readiness.

It took me a minute to realize what exactly Jessamine Career and Technology Center did when I first took my position here at The Jessamine Journal over a year ago.

Although, once I figured out the amazing programs it offers students, I couldn’t help but be a little envious and wish I too grew up with as many possibilities and programs to discover as the local student does here in Jessamine County.

My high school had nothing compared to the programs offered at JCS.

I remember the typical offerings such as sports, drama, choir and some art classes. There was mechanics class as well.

However, being more inclined to take the classes revolving around English and literature, when other kids were busy taking easy classes senior year I signed up for British literature and loved it.

Looking back, I wonder what my life could have been like if I was offered as many opportunities as the local student is offered her.

Time has changed many things, including the need to attend college if a student’s desire lies somewhere else in the workforce.

Seeing the renovations taking place this spring at JCS gets me even more excited for future generations.

Through programs like marketing, financial services, health services, information technology, food science, early childhood education, pre-law, fire safety animal science and pre-engineering — only to name a few — students who attend public school in Jessamine County will be well equipped to enter the workforce, regardless of if they go to college or not.

I am also happy to see many new steps being taken to ensure the safety of the students.

It is a shame we live in a world where we have to worry and think about our children’s safety when we drop them off at public school. Being able to breathe a little better knowing there are more measures in place for our children’s safety is a great thing.

I want to commend Jessamine County Schools and the steps they are taking to ensure the students who walk through their doors have the best future ahead of them upon graduation.

When we, as parents, send our children off into the world, all we can hope is they obtain what’s best for them and they are happy.

Knowing your children attend a safe, secure and thriving school district which offers your child many ways to explore their right path in life is icing on the cake.

Jessamine County schools are taking great steps to ensure its students success, not only while they are in school but upon graduating.

As a parent, what more can you ask for?
