Mary Anna Hager

Sept. 27, 1925 – Jan. 3, 2019

Mary Anna ‘Dandy’ Locker Hager, 93, widow of Bob S. Hager, passed away peacefully Thursday, Jan. 3, 2019 at her home.

She was born Sept. 27, 1925 in Jessamine County to the late Cal and Eddie Locker.

Dandy was a special Mama, Granny, Nana and Aunt Dan to her own as well as many others.

She was a wonderful cook who made sure you never left the “Hill” hungry.

Along with her late husband Bob, they ran Hager’s Grocery in Mt. Lebanon for many years.

She was a member of Mt. Lebanon Methodist Church and Hickman Creek Coon Club, an honorary FFA member, homemaker, tobacco farmer, gardener and she retired from Jessamine County Schools system.

In earlier years, she was an avid UK Basketball fan.

Survivors include a son, Johnny ‘Frog’ Hager (Donna), a daughter, Jan Hager (Mike), daughter in law Debbie, 5 grandchildren, Anna, Karen, Vance (Vickie), Misty (Kim) and Aaron Hager. 9 great-grandchildren, Willie, Rachael, Aly (Anthony), Tyler, Payton, Caleb, Savannah, Tucker, Laykin, 1 great-great grandchild, Dixie, sister-in-law, Nannie Bell Stinnett, and special friends Jack Cooper, Wayne (Roann) Stinnett, and several other special nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by sons, Bobby, Terry (Brenda) and Burch, grandchildren, John Michael, Valerie, Mary Hope and Josh, brothers and sisters, Sam, Oscar, Gilbert, Clarence, Helen, and Hester (Junnie), and special friends, Pattie Cooper, Nolie Blakeman, as well as several sister and brother in-laws.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Tuesday, at Betts & West Funeral Home with Bro. Bill Bales officiating.

Burial will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery.

Bearers will be her Grandsons and Great Grandsons and Jack Cooper, Paul Miller, Bronce Hager and Barry Joe Harvey.

Honorary Bearers will be Granddaughters and Great-Granddaughters, Wayne Stinnett, Linda Ruth East, Susan Miller, Jean Ann Hammond, Ashley Miller, Jimmy Jasper, Vance Drakeford, Debbie and Donna Hager, Duke Hager, Jack Graham, Josh Teater, Terri and C.J. Curtsinger, Tony Robinson, Rita Welch, Donna Morgan and all nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be 1 to 9 p.m. Sunday and Monday at the funeral home.

Special thanks to her care givers Aaron Hager, Susie (Paul) Miller, Jean Ann Hammond, Ashley Miller, Florence Stinnett, Jack and Pattie Cooper, Rita Welch, Donna Morgan and Linda Vanover.

Joyce Marie Cook

Jan. 12, 1930 – Dec. 31, 2018

Joyce Marie Craighead Cook, formerly of Roanoke, Virginia, passed away Dec. 31, 2018.

Joyce was born on Jan. 12, 1930 to the late I.T. and Eva Craighead.

She was an employee of Thompson’s Foodtown for 20 years.

She is survived by her daughters Carol Gibson, Dottie Metz, Barbara Bruner and Linda (David) Moores, her daughter in law Rose Cook, her seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son David Cook and her brother Dale Craighead.

Funeral service were conducted at noon Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019 at Betts & West Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Maple Grove Cemetery. The family received friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Mary Lee Potts Saylor

Dec. 17, 1940 – Jan. 5, 2019

Mary Lee Potts Saylor, 78, widow of Lee Edward Saylor, of Herrington Way in Lancaster, died Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019 as a result of an automobile accident.

She was born in Livonia, Michigan on Dec. 17, 1940 to the late Bernerd Potts and Verna Brownell Potts.

She was a member of New Journey Baptist Church and was retired from Sergeant & Greenleaf in Nicholasville after 28 years of service.

Survivors include sons, Timothy James Wilder, Terry Lee Saylor and Jerry Lee Saylor, daughters, Judy Gayle Smith, Shirley Kaye Caudle and April Jane Tolson, 14 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Today, at Betts & West Funeral Home with Bro. Keith Wheldon officiating.

Visitation was Wednesday from 5 to 9 p.m. Burial will be in Bluegrass Memorial Gardens.

Mathew Kane Kanatzar

Aug. 29, 1969 – Jan. 4, 2019

Mathew Kane Kanatzar, age 49, passed away Jan. 4, 2019 at his residence in Versailles, Kentucky.

He was born on Aug. 29, 1969 in Lexington, Kentucky to Roger Kanatzar and the late Helen Locker Kanatzar.

Matthew was a 1988 graduate of Woodford County High School and a former employee of the City of Nicholasville and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Besides his father Matthew is survived by one son Taylor Dean Kanatzar, one brother Daryl Keith Kanatzar, ex wife Macey Dean Kanatzar and her mother Bonnie Dean, one nephew Daryl (Christine) Kanatzar, step mother Mary Lois Kanatzar, step sister Amy Ledford, Jill DeVary and Kali DeVary.

Besides his mother he was preceded in death by one sister in law Leslie Ruth Kanatzar.
