Arlene M. Johnson

April 23, 1934 – Sept. 11, 2018

Arlene M. Johnson, 84, of Wilmore, Kentucky entered victoriously into heaven Tuesday, Sept. 11, 2018. Arlene was born in Clyde, Ohio, to John and Bernice (Gemberling) Riegel. She studied music at Fort Wayne Bible College in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and graduated as a piano performance major. Her God-given musical talent blessed many congregations over the span of 72 years in which she served as church pianist.

Though her degree was in music, Arlene was a career social worker. She first worked as a parole officer with juvenile girls in Indiana, and eventually worked for the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government in Children’s Protective Services. When she retired in 1996, she was LFUCG’s Director of Adult Services.

Arlene was predeceased by her husband, Thomas O. Johnson, and her son, Randall Scott Johnson. She is survived by two children, Timothy Johnson (wife, Deborah) and Rhonda Dragomir (husband, Dale), both of Wilmore. Arlene was a loving grandmother to four grandchildren, Chris Johnson (wife, Stacey) of St. Augustine, Florida, Brett Johnson (wife, Rachel) of Wilmore, Brian Johnson (wife, Sophia) of Wilmore, and Jana Dragomir of Lexington, Kentucky. Other survivors include a sister, Thelma Girton, of Brookville, Ohio, and a dear friend of the family, Greg Williams, of Wilmore. She enjoyed her seven great-grandchildren and looked forward with joy to an eighth expected in November.

Arlene’s life and legacy are those of a godly woman: “She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children rise up and call her blessed . . .” (Proverbs 31:26-28).

The family will receive visitors at the Clark Legacy Center in Brannon Crossing on Saturday, Sept. 15 from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., with a funeral in the chapel there to begin at 1p.m. Following the service, a private graveside ceremony will be held at the Wilmore Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts to Wilmore Christian Church, Dwelling Ministries, or Evangelism Resources all in Wilmore, Kentucky. www.clarklegacycenter.com
