A popular saying by Oscar Wilde goes, “And all at once, summer collapsed into fall.”

I, for one, think there is nothing better than when the weather finally starts to cool in the fall and the long nights of summer start to fade giving way to longer shadows and cool evening breezes.

For me, F. Scott Fitzgerald said it best in The Great Gatsby when he wrote, “Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall.”

Like many of you, as much as summer excites me when it begins, come mid-August I am ready to say goodbye to the hot, humid months and welcome all things apple and pumpkin related back into my life as we get ready to once again hibernate through the winter months.

This year, I am excited to be a part of many activities in the county come the cool fall months of autumn, such as the fall festivals scheduled for late September and early October. A tradition which undoubtedly predates us all, there is something about gathering together with a cup of hot coffee or apple cider in hand and enjoying many activities together such as hayrides, apple picking and carnival games to help celebrate the turn of the season.

Nicholasville will celebrate fall this year with a Hope Over Jessamine Fall Fest scheduled for 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sept. 29. The event is being held at the City-County Park Fairgrounds and includes food, music and games for everyone who attends.

If that was not enough, Wilmore will hold its own Fall Festival from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 6. This marks Wilmore’s 21st anniversary of this fall tradition. Held on East Main Street, the event includes over 50 artisans, fiber arts, woodworking, photography, stained glass, baskets, jewelry, soaps and spa wraps, live music and food vendors. Local restaurants will also be open for those who are interested. Wilmore will also host Treats on Main, Wednesday, Oct. 31 in order to help celebrate Halloween.

As we all get ready to transition into the fall, where everything is pumpkin spice flavored and heavy meals shared with family make our hearts grow fonder, I find myself eager to get out in the community and experience all the fall related activities Jessamine County has to offer.

As the leaves begin to change, fall to the ground, and we all dig deep into our closets to break free our boots, sweaters, scarfs, hats, beanie’s and jackets — I wish you all have the happiest of experiences falling into fall this season and hope to see you all out at the many amazing events this county has planned throughout the next few months.
