School is now in session

It is hard to believe it is already here. Another school year has just begun, and children and young adults everywhere are dragging themselves reluctantly off to the classroom for another year of learning, while parents everywhere are jumping for joy as schedules return to normal after a long hot summer here in Central Kentucky.

I, for one, am excited to see the school year kick off. As the bell rings on the first day of school, I always get excited for the months ahead when we all get to once again enjoy fall, the holidays and a new year.

Coming up on my one-year anniversary at The Jessamine Journal, school starting made me think back to when I first sat in this desk in this office and how important it was to me then to quickly make connections at the many wonderful Jessamine County Schools. I worked hard this last year to cultivate relationships at each campus and hope to bring you all the wonderful education news here in Jessamine County over the course of the 2018-19 school year.

Nelson Mandela said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

I love watching the stories hit my desk throughout the school year as each student in the county who is working their hardest and making great strides obtaining amazing things in your local school system shares the news of their accomplishments.

As I have told the many educators in the county, I also urge you as the reader, parent, grandparent, sibling or aunt and uncle to reach out to me often with pictures and news about the special student in your life and the things they are accomplishing here in the county.

If your student’s school is conducting a play, having a holiday party or even just achieving educational goals surpassing most others, please do not hesitate to reach out and let me know.

These kinds of successes should be celebrated, and what better way to do so than to highlight them in the community newspaper?

So, to all the students out there in Jessamine County, I give you a great quote to read over and over again and help you throughout this school year: “The sky tells me there are no limits and curiosity tells me to explore.”

I hope you all get to work exploring all the avenues you can learn as you grow through education. There is no greater feeling in the world than doing something you love and learning to become better at it every day. Take each day as a great learning opportunity on your path in life, and you will always succeed.

After all, “Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try.”

As we all start off the new school year, I want to leave you with a little reminder we here at The Jessamine Journal cannot wait to see what you all accomplish this year. Little or big, we want to hear about it and share it with everyone else here in Jessamine County as well.
