EJHS students recognized by Youth Salute

Jessamine County High School students were among those recognized by the annual Central Kentucky Youth Leadership Council’s Youth Salute. There were two West Jessamine High School, one homeschooled and 18 students from East Jessamine High School recognized this year.

The Central Kentucky Council on Youth Leadership was formed in 1980 to conduct the Youth Salute in nearby counties in cooperation with the National Council on Youth Leadership, a non-profit organization.

Students were nominated by teachers, guidance counselors and principals for this year’s Youth Salute. In order to qualify, the student must be a junior (senior class of 2018), have a 3.0 GPA or better and have held at least two leadership roles for which they were chosen by their peers or an adult leader within the past two years in school, religious or community sponsored organizations.

Several students from Jessamine County will be featured weekly in The Jessamine Journal.

LINDSEY RAE ROSE

Lindsey’s accomplishments include Youth Leadership of Jessamine County, East Jessamine High School student council, EJHS Cheer Captain, Jessamine Career and Technology Center Ambassador, Explore Club, National Honor’s Society, Mock Trial Team, Beta Club and the redefined.

Lindsey plans to major in criminal justice and would like to be a criminal psychologist.

QUINTON CARR

Quinton’s accomplishments include Equestrian Woods Swim Team Assistant Coach, East Jessamine High School Sophomore Class President, Jessamine County Shark’s Special Olympics Swim Team Coach, Jessamine County Superintendent’s forum, Roger’s Scholarship Program, National Honor Society, National Beta Club, Too Good for Violence Mentor, HYPE Mentor for at-risk elementary students and Gavin’s Goodies volunteer.

Quinton hopes to attend the University of Kentucky and pursue a career in the medical field.

SYDNEY POOR

Sydney’s accomplishments include Too Good for Violence President, HYPE Leadership Group, peer tutor, teen mentor, Member of the Health Occupations Students of America Group, Member of the East Jessamine Girls’ Varsity Basketball team, Junior Varsity Basketball Captain, International Barrel Racing Association Kentucky State Representative, elementary school helper, EJHS homecoming court and All A Honor Roll.

Sydney plans to attend the University of Kentucky and major in organic chemistry to soon become an anesthesiologist.

ZACH THORNBURY

Zach’s accomplishments include HYPE Club member, Explore Club, teen mentor, student council member, Youth Leadership Jessamine County member, National Honor Society Historian member, SkillsUSA Engineering Camp Teacher, Chemical Stockpile Emergency Preparedness Program Natu-ral Disaster Exercise Cameraman and EJHS Men’s soccer Junior Varsity Captain.

Zach plans to major in hardware engineering and wants to design a revolutionary product.

VITA GRISHCHUK

Vita’s accomplishments include Explore Club, VBS teacher helper, East Jessamine High School National Honor’s Society member, Beta Club, bake sale organizer, Youth Worship Leader, Jesus Prom volunteer, EJHS choir member and Ukrainian Pentecostal Church Youth Choir member.

SAMANTHA HUGHES

Samantha’s accomplishments include drama, BETA, HOSSA, Explore Club, National Honor Society, student-led production, Awaken Leadership Class and Assistant Stage Manager.

Samantha plans to get her doctoral degree in medicine and would hope to one day become an emergency room doctor.
