Jessamine County High School students recognized by Youth Salute

Jessamine County High School students were among those recognized by the annual Central Kentucky Youth Leadership Council’s Youth Salute. There were two West Jessamine High School, one homeschooled and 18 students from East Jessamine High School recognized this year.

The Central Kentucky Council on Youth Leadership was formed in 1980 to conduct the Youth Salute in nearby counties in cooperation with the National Council on Youth Leadership, a non-profit organization.

Students were nominated by teachers, guidance counselors and principal’s for this year’s Youth Salute. In order to qualify, the student must be a junior (senior class of 2018), have a 3.0 GPA or better and have held at least two leadership roles for which they were chosen by their peers or an adult leader within the past two years in school, religious or community sponsored organizations.

Several students from Jessamine County will be featured weekly in The Jessamine Journal.

JONATHAN PRINCE

Jonathan’s accomplishments include Youth Leadership Jessamine County member, Student Council Vice President, National Honor Society Member, National Beta Club Historian, Veritas Leadership Team, Too Good for Violence mentor, East Jessamine High School Baseball Team, At-Risk Elementary Student mentor, Veritas Student Ministry Louisiana Mission Trip and Skills USA Community Service Committee Chair.

JULIA WOOLUMS

Julia’s accomplishments include National Beta Club, National Honors Society, Skills USA member and third-place award in Skills USA state competition for Creed, DECA, Catalyst Christian Church children’s worship and ministry team leader, Jessamine School of Classical Dance Advanced Company member, Jessamine School of Classical Dance children’s dance assistant, East Jessamine High School dance team All-American.

Julia plans to double major in dance and either kinesiology or education. Julia would love to be a ballet dancer and a teacher or a physical therapist.

KAITLYN KAREN ANN PALUMBO

Kaitlyn’s accomplishments include CRAFT Academy for Excellence in Math and Science student, VEX Robotics state winner, SKILLS USA secretary and state winner, dance team, preschool leader at Southland Christian Church, BETA Club, National Honors Society, Mindy’s Jessamine School of Dance junior company, Tom Leach All Resilient Team and Loan Oak Swim Team junior coach.

Kaitlyn is currently attending the CRAFT Academy for Excellence in Math and Science at Morehead State University. She is a pre-med major and plans to attend medical school and become a pediatric neurosurgeon.

KATHLEEN FITZPATRICK

Kathleen’s accomplishments include National Honor Society, BETA Club member, All As Honor Roll, Gold Presidential Service award recipient, Explore Club member, book club member, junior varsity cross country, varsity swimming, kindergarten religious education teacher and volunteer at the animal shelter.

Kathleen plans to pursue a career in the medical field. She hopes to specialize in the care of young children.

KYLEE TYSON

Kylee’s accomplishments include East Jessamine High School soccer team, EJHS soccer team captain (sophomore and junior year), junior class president, Jessamine County Relay for Life grand marshall, 2018 Kentucky Comeback Athlete of the Year, nominated for the Tom Leach All Resilient sports team, Explore Club, National Honor Society, BETA Club and student council.

Kylee plans to major in chemistry and would love to be a pharmacist.
