Historical society has monthly meeting

The Jessamine County Historical Society announced it will hold a monthly meeting at 7 p.m. today at 216 N. Main St. in the Farmer’s Bank Square. All members and those interested in membership are required to attend. As a reminder, the society would like to inform the community its doors will be open every Thursday from 1 to 3 p.m. for those interested in researching history and genealogy, or talking about subjects pertaining to Jessamine County history.

Public archaeological dig at Camp Nelson Heritage Park

Camp Nelson Heritage Park has scheduled an archaeological dig on the ground of the Civil War era supply depot and recruitment center available for two sessions, 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m., Saturdays, July 14 and Aug. 4. Camp Nelson is located at 6614 Danville Road. The dig will be led by Dr. Stephen McBride, director of interpretation. Adults and children are encouraged to participate, with children 5-years-old and under requiring an adult companion. Cost is $5 per person.
