Jessamine County high school students were among those recognized by the annual Central Kentucky Youth Leadership Council’s Youth Salute. Two West Jessamine High School, one homeschooled and 18 students from East Jessamine High School were recognized this year.

The Central Kentucky Council on Youth Leadership was formed in 1980 to conduct the Youth Salute in nearby counties in cooperation with the National Council on Youth Leadership, a non-profit organization.

Students were nominated by teachers, guidance counselors and principal’s for this year’s Youth Salute. In order to qualify, the student must be a junior (senior class of 2018), have a 3.0 GPA or better and have held at least two leadership roles for which they were chosen by their peers or an adult leader within the past two years in school, religious or community sponsored organizations.

Several students from Jessamine County will be featured weekly in The Jessamine Journal.

HANNAH SNYDER

Hannah’s accomplishments include Governor’s School for Entrepreneurs, Kentucky 4-H State Teen Council District Four representative and technology committee co-chair, District Four Teen Council middle school retreat committee chairperson, Jessamine County 4-H Teen Council vice president and secretary, Kentucky 4-H bronze and silver achievement award, 4-H summer camp junior counselor, 4-H country ham project reserve senior grand champion, grand champion photography at Kentucky State Fair, Jessamine County Cloverbud teen leader and Bluegrass United Performing Arts Company.

Hannah would like to major in biology to pursue a career in the medical field.

FAITH OSBORNE

Faith’s accomplishments include National Honors Society, Church of the Savior kids worship leader, girls varsity basketball, virls varsity and junior varsity soccer, peer mentor for students at Nicholasville Elementary, Church of the Savior youth worship team, COS kids teacher, Thompson Hood volunteer and peer tutor and special needs helper.

Faith plans to major in elementary education and would like to become a second-grade teacher.

ANDREA LI

Andrea’s accomplishments include National Honor Society member, Skills USA member, Technology Student Association vice president, second place in pin design at SkillsUSA state competition, Kentucky Chinese American Association Chinese School student, National Beta Club member, highest grade average in KYCAA Chinese school, second place in the University of Kentucky Confucius Institute Moon Festival essay competition, Explore Club and VEX Robotics Club member.

Andrea plans to attend college and pursue a career in biomedical engineering.

KARIS SANDEFUS

Karis’s accomplishments include West Jessamine High School volleyball team, Porter student ministry, DECA, National Honors Society, Teens Against Tobacco Use, YMCA Club, Business and Accounting Summer Education Camp (BASE), National BETA Club and Tates Creek volleyball team 110 percent award.

Karis plans to major in secondary education and would like to be a high school mathematics teacher and volleyball coach.

BRANDAN WIENHOLD

Brandan’s accomplishments include VEX Robotics state champion 2017, SkillsUSA state champion, JCTC ambassador, landscape manager for KESMARC, Beta Club member, TSA member, Governor’s Scholarship program applicant, National Honors Society, Explore Club member and 2016 VEX state finalist.

Brandan plans to major in mechanical engineering and wants to travel the world working for John Deere.
