The University of Kentucky Community Health Center in Wilmore has been serving the community since 2015 and is now growing into a full primary care clinic.

The change was made June 1 when the clinic began offering full primary care services.

The clinic is located at 317 E Main St., and is open  10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday. Most health insurance is accepted.

Sharon Lock, professor, assistant dean of faculty practice and clinic director, said the clinic now provides more care options for patients.

“We provide comprehensive health care for people of all ages including health promotion, disease prevention, immunizations and management of acute and chronic health problems,” Lock said.

To meet the needs of the community, Lock said three family nurse practitioners provide care for patients.

But the connection to the University of Kentucky means the clinic has access to more care if needed.

“We collaborate with the University of Kentucky Department of Family and Community Medicine and have access to specialists in the UK Healthcare system for consultation and referral,” Lock said.

Practice manager Amy DelRe said the clinic is a dream come true for UK.

“It has always been a goal for the College of Nursing to own and operate its own clinic in order to give faculty a place to practice and a clinic that our advanced practice registered nursing students can be trained and serve the people of the community,” DelRe said.

Most of all the goal is provide quality care, Lock said.

“Our dream has always been to provide quality healthcare for the citizens of Wilmore and the surrounding area who do not have a primary care provider,” Lock said. “It is also important to us to have a practice site for family nurse practitioners in the College of Nursing as well as a clinical site for our family nurse practitioner students.”

DelRe said she has seen the clinic through since before it started.

“It has been a true labor of love for both Dr. Lock and myself as it has been a long road to get to this place and we could not be more pleased as our work continues,” DelRe said.
