JCTC VEX Robotics team celebrates accomplishments

A total of 579 teams competed at the VEX Worlds Competion in Louisville April 25 to 28. Kentucky was represented by nine teams, including teams from the Jessamine Career and Technology Center.

The following teams received bids to compete: 1859S Cobras – Andrew Palumbo, Jared Deaton, May Li, Lucee Thomas; 1859W Phoenix — Joe Alverson, Jon Alverson, Hannah Heady, Will O’Bryan, Seth Slugantz; 1859X Gladiators — Drew Bender, Alex Griffin, Andrea Li, Bradan Wienhold.

The 1859S team competed in the research division ending up ranked 27th in its division. The 1859X team competed in the technology division and was ranked 24th in its division where it was in a position to pick it alliance partner allowing the teams to move on and compete in the quarterfinals. 

The 1859W team competed in the math division. Although it was ranked 41st in its division, the team was able to form an alliance for the quarterfinals. Making it to round two of the quarterfinals, the team also won the Think Award.

“This is not a state championship award, this is not a national championship award,” said Greg Camenisch, JCTC robotics coach. “This is a world championship award. This is the elite of the elite.”
