Why and how did you get involved with Future Farmer’s of America?

My dad was a FFA member and one of my close friends joined this year. They said it would be a great opportunity to get involved and learn new things. I talked to my agriculture teacher about doing activities with our chapter and found friends in FFA, which is exciting, as well as going to all the events I can.

What is your favorite FFA activity?

The National FFA Convention was my favorite FFA activity because I got time to bond and get to know the people in our chapter better. I also got to meet other FFA members from around the country and discover more about FFA.

What is your favorite

agriculture class and why?

I have only taken principles of agriculture, but I am really looking forward to taking animal science and equine science because I love animals.

What does FFA mean to you?

FFA means getting new opportunities to work outside of my comfort zone and to make new friends. FFA means a great deal to me, my FFA friends are more like a family.

How has FFA helped you become the person you are today?

It has helped me gain more confidence and be a role model for everyone around me. It has also taught me new leadership skills.

What are your future FFA/agriculture goals?

“For my future FFA goals, I really hope to get the opportunity to compete at the National Convention in a contest and place.”

Katelyn is a first year agriculture student and FFA member. Her SAE is centered around equine studies and she is a successful barrel racer. She has competed in the Equine Knowledge Bowl and was a member of the Junior Parliamentary Procedure team.

 

Quintin Nelton

Why and how did you get involved with Future Farmer’s of America?

I first got involved with FFA when I was in eighth-grade. One of our teachers, Mrs. Hack, really convinced me to do more with FFA.

Mrs. Hack is a native of Jessamine County and currently serves in the capacity of Curriculum Resource Administrator at Jessamine Career & Technology Center.

What is your favorite FFA activity?

My favorite activity would have to be the annual Supervised Agricultural Experience Showcase our chapter has. I love being able to show others the hard work I have put into my business which also serves as my SAE.

All agriculture students are required to have a Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) in which students are working in an agriculture setting of their choice.

  What is your favorite agriculture class and why?

Its difficult to choose between my floral design class and small engine class, but I would have to say small engine. My teacher, Mr. Norris, has made that class enjoyable and I learned official names for some engine parts that I didn’t know prior to taking the class.

Mr. Norris has been a teacher at Jessamine Career and Technology Center for two years and currently teaches courses in agriculture power and structural and technical systems pathway.

What does FFA mean to you?

FFA is an opportunity to serve and help people in my community.

How has FFA helped you become the person you are today?

FFA has taught me a ton of new skills and has helped me grow my business.

What are your future FFA/agriculture goals?

Since I am a senior this is my last year as an FFA member. My agriculture classes have inspired me to pursue my goal of starting a welding business and to own my own farm.
