Jessamine County Future Farmer’s of America is pleased to announce that we will be selecting a “Member of the Month” for each month in 2018. This month is member Luke Guy. Guy has made several contributions to our chapter and has been dedicated to always putting forth his best effort including his tremendous part in the annual Jessamine County FFA Thanksgiving Food Drive.

Q: Why did you get involved with FFA?

A: “My first advisor, Mr.Thomas, convinced me to join FFA my eighth-grade year. He made FFA activities sound fun and exciting, plus two of my friends joined and it gave me something to do besides football.”

Fun fact: Students in eighth-grade at East Jessamine Middle School and West Jessamine Middle School are eligible to take the zero block course Principles of Agriculture that counts toward high school credit.

Q: What is your favorite FFA activity?

A: “The food drive is my favorite. I’ve always liked competition and raising food donations can get competitive. I like being able to help others in need and delivering the food.”

Fun fact: The Jessamine County FFA Food Drive has been an annual event that focuses on raising canned food items to serve local families as well as aid in stocking our local food bank.

Q: What is your favorite AG class?

A: “My favorite class has been wildlife resources. It was a really hands-on class and I learned a lot.”

Fun fact: Wildlife Resources is a class offered in the Agriculture Department at JCTC and is currently taught by Ryan Thomas. Students are eligible to take this class as a sophomore after completing the introductory Principles of Agriculture course.

Q: What does FFA mean to you?

A: “FFA is a group of people that I fit in and can be myself with, it’s a family.”

Fun fact: FFA dues are $20 and gives students the opportunity to participate in several in school and out of school competitions and activities. There is an FFA meeting every month at JCTC.

Q: How has FFA helped you become the person you are today?

A: “It has shown me that I should be grateful for what I have and to do the right thing for others that need help.”

Q: What are your future FFA/AG goals?

A: “I want to go into the agriculture program at University of Kentucky to be an agriculture teacher, and I want to attend as many FFA high school events that I can.”
