Jean D. Bell

Jean Dale (Mayes) Bell, age 92, died Sept. 5, 2017 in Highlands Ranch, Colo. She was born in Bowling Green, Ky. on May 26, 1925 to Truman and Bonnie Jean (Triplett) Mayes. She was graduated from Henry Clay High School in Lexington, Ky. and earned her undergraduate degree in Psychology from Asbury College in Wilmore, Ky. in 1947. In 1974, she received her Master of Library Science degree from the University of Maine at Orono. She married Paul R. Bell, Jr. on Dec. 27, 1950 in Lexington, Ky. Jean taught in public/private schools in Ky., Mass., Fla., Maine, and Bolivia, South America for five decades, ending her career as the Reference Librarian, a faculty position, at Asbury College, retiring in 1996. She was a member of the Wilmore United Methodist Church in Wilmore, Ky. She is predeceased by her parents; former husband, Paul (1999); brothers Richard Truman Mayes (2003) and John Triplett Mayes (2004); a niece, Laura Gray Mayes (1995); and a great nephew, Thomas Martin Mayes (2010). She is survived by her children, Dr. Paul Ray Bell, III (Julie) of Allen, Texas; Robert Wesley Bell of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Amie Jean Eubanks (Steve) of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; grandchildren Elizabeth Dawn Sellinger (Eric), Suzanna Jean Thompson (Tyler), Amanda Leigh Bell, Philip Robert Wells and Zachary Grant Eubanks; great-grandchild David Ray Edelen; sister-in-law Emery Lou (Flanders) Mayes; nephews Col. (retired) William Martin Mayes (Neoma) and Richard Terrance Mayes (Yvonne) and great nieces Ashley Dee (Nix) Lesley and Enola Nell Mayes. The matriarch of the Bell family, Jean loved her Lord, family, gospel music (particularly gospel quartets), crossword puzzles, Asbury University and the Kentucky Wildcats basketball team. She was a volunteer at the Francis Asbury Society for many years after her retirement. Great is Thy Faithfulness, written by fellow Kentuckian Thomas Chisholm, was her favorite hymn. Jean lived a courageous life of self-sacrificial love. Lexington Ave., Wilmore, KY 40390) with the Rev. Dr. Diane Bell officiating. Burial will be at the Wilmore Cemetery in Wilmore, Ky. “Great is Thy faithfulness! David Jenkins

Sept. 8, 1927 – Oct. 30, 2017

David W. Jenkins, 90, widower of Nellie Frances Yates Jenkins, died Monday, Oct. 30, 2017 at Baptist Health Lexington. He was born in Lyle, Tenn. on Sept. 8, 1927 to the late J.M. and Lucy White Jenkins. He was a member of St. Luke Catholic Church and a Veteran of the Korean War, serving as a Captain in the Army. He moved with his family from Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 1975. Dave was retired from Link Belt FMC, and worked after retirement as a Realtor with Century 21 in Nicholasville. He was an avid outdoorsman, with a special love of the land with which he was blessed to spend his last 25 years working on. The only thing he loved more was his family. He is survived by a son, Todd A. (Cheryl) Jenkins and a daughter, Tracy A. Jenkins; two grandchildren, Wil Jenkins and Raegan Jenkins; great-grandson, Cason Jenkins; and a brother, Clayton E. Jenkins. He was preceded in death by brothers Grady A. Jenkins, Jack Jenkins and Gilmon Jenkins; and sisters Cora Marie Evans and Aileen Jenkins. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 3, 2017 at Bethel Christian Church with Bro. Bill Bales officiating. Bearers will be Wil Jenkins, Ron Shearer, Dean Kemp, Clay Sparks, Dennis King and Kenny Burdine. Visitation will be Thursday from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Betts & West Funeral Home.
