Classic Sci-Fi Matinee Madness

In anticipation of JCPL Comic Surge, we are showing eight classic science fiction movies. Trivia, popcorn, and drinks will be provided at every show. There is no registration, just drop-in and enjoy. Our seventh show is “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” from 1977.

Robot Party

Thursday, Oct. 12 

2 p.m. – 3 p.m.

Complete challenges and activities with a variety of robots, including Spheros, Cubelets and an M-Bot. No previous experience is necessary! This is a come and go program and registration is not required. Grades 6-12 only.

What’s Brewing? R.C. & The Nightshades

Great coffee and great music are what’s brewing every month at this coffeehouse style live music program. In October, we welcome R.C. & The Nightshades. Enjoy hot beverages and snacks and do a little dancing. Enter to win a bag of Halloween treats worthy of grown-up taste buds!
R.C & The Nightshades is made up of members Ronn “RC” Crowder (lead vocal, guitar, harmonica), “Skeets” Pennington (vocal, horns), Steve DiMartino (drums), Gene Noel (bass, vocal), Lindsay Olive (lead guitar) and Gerald Haile (keyboards, vocal). The band’s latest album entitled “Snakebit” was submitted for Grammy consideration by their record label, Altus Records.

Mother Goose Storytime

Think you know pop culture and trivia? Want to test your skills and win some prizes? Come join us every Monday for Teen Trivia! Topics include: music, sports, food, Harry Potter, video games, anime, books, and more! This is a come-and-go program and registration is not required.

iMovie Basics

Explore the basics of creating your own video project in iMovie using photos, video clips, and music. You will be able edit by adding backgrounds, video effects and transitions, and titles to your project. Bring a USB to save your project.

FAFSA workshop with KHEAA

Tuesday, Oct. 17,   

5 p.m. – 7 p.m.

Get one-on-one assistance completing a FAFSA with your local KHEAA representative. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is used to apply for federal, state, and college-based financial aid.

You should file a FAFSA as soon as possible after after Oct. 1. Awards are income-based, so applying early does not guarantee you will get an award. Registration is required. Students and their parents are encouraged to attend.

Family Storytime

7 p.m. – 7:45 p.m.

This storytime is designed for families with children 0 to 5 years old. Family storytime is designed to provide parents/caregivers and children time to enjoy books and reading together while incorporating early literacy and school readiness activities.

Adults and children will spend quality time together as they enjoy stories, lap songs, fingerplays, singing and dancing. Each session includes 25 to 30 minutes of group interaction followed by an opportunity for parents and children to play, talk and read together.

Participation is encouraged as we explore language and movement in a group setting. No registration is required for this program, so please attend as often as you are able.

Preschool Storytime

Wednesday, Oct. 18, 

10 a.m. – 11 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.

This storytime is designed for families with children 3 to 5 years old. With an early literacy and school readiness focus, group time includes 25 to 30 minutes of outstanding stories, poetry, fingerplays, singing and dancing. It wraps up with time for adults and children to interact with a story one-on-one.

Participants can then enjoy an additional 10 to 15 minutes of an age-appropriate art project, physical activity or dramatic play. No registration is required for this program, so please attend as often as you are able.

Exercise With Ease

Wednesday, Oct. 18,   

10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.

If you want to exercise, but need to start slowly, this is the perfect class for you. We can help you get moving gently so you can avoid exacerbating injuries or existing conditions.

These exercises can be adapted to fit nearly any physical impediment. Trained instructor, Paula Hutchens will be your guide to exercising with ease. Please register.

Lego Club – Bricks 4 Kidz

Wednesday, Oct. 18,   

6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m.

Use LEGO® Bricks to build creations that actually move! After you’ve mastered your projects, you can create your own mini-figure to take home. This program is designed for children 4 years to 5th grade.

Family groups will work together to create each project.
