On Saturday, Oct. 28 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Jessamine County Fiscal Court and Jessamine County Environmental Services will host the 2017 Fall Haul. The one-day event will offer Jessamine county residents free disposal of hazardous household waste at the Jessamine County Convenience Center, located at 123 Hendren Way in Nicholasville.

Hazardous items that will be accepted during the event include paint, paint thinner, antifreeze, pesticides, pool chemicals, creosote, propane cylinders, antifreeze, insect sprays and more. Everyday household materials that are also considered hazardous, including moth balls, oven and floor cleaners, and even arts and crafts supplies will be also accepted during the Fall Haul.

For the first time, this year’s list of acceptable items will also include propane tanks and e-scrap materials (computers, monitors, etc.), according to Director of Environmental Services Richie Horn. “Both propane cylinders and e-scrap materials are difficult to dispose of and harmful to the environment if they aren’t disposed of correctly,” he said. “The Fall Haul gives residents an easy way to get rid of just about any type of hazardous waste you can think of without harming the environment.”

A complete list of the hazardous waste materials that will be accepted during Fall Hall 2017 can be found online at www.jessamineco.com or the “Jessamine County, Kentucky” Facebook page.

The 2017 Fall Haul is funded by a $32,000 grant from the Kentucky Division of Waste Management and a 25 percent match that the Jessamine County Fiscal Court is required to provide.

By offering the Fall Haul, Jessamine County Fiscal Court are giving residents a safe and free alternative to throwing hazardous materials in the trash or even worse, pouring them onto the ground and thereby increasing the risk that they will contaminate our waterways,” Horn said. “We’re hoping that as many of our residents take advantage of this opportunity as possible.”
