The loss spoiled the coaching debut of John Gilliam, who took over a program that has won only five games over the last three seasons. The Colts fell to 1-6 in the season-opening bowl.

Jamesy Swentzel accounted for most of the Colts’ offense. The junior wide receiver, who was named West’s most valuable player of the game, ran 45 yards for a touchdown on their first play from scrimmage, and he caught a 63-yard touchdown pass from Jacob Humes on the second play of the second half.

Lloyd scored three times between those touchdowns, as quarterback Jordan Fann ran for two TDs and threw for another to give the Juggernauts a 22-8 halftime lead. They scored on two of their first three possessions in the second half to put the game out of reach.

Fann threw for 163 yards and two touchdowns and rushed for 81 yards and three TDs.

West’s offense netted minus-37 yards after scoring to start the second half, and the Colts were outgained 380 yards to 96.
