Jessamine County residents are in for a weekend of festival fun at community events outside city limits.

The 2017 Troy Summerfest at Troy Presbyterian Church will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday at 11021 Troy Pike (Hwy. 33). Events will include an old-fashioned cake walk, a duck pond, face painting, sand art, a silent auction and a silent auction. 

The Summerfest will also feature live music with James Dean and Carrie Ann, along with a pie-in-the-face contest at 1:30 p.m.

On the other end of the county, celebrating heritage, heart and home will be the mission of the Highbridge Homecoming Festival when the annual event takes place this weekend outside of Wilmore.

The park will open for Homecoming Festival events at 10 a.m. on Saturday and at 11 a.m. on Sunday. The events and activities will include model trains, a petting zoo, Rosie’s Pony Rides, a kids’ water balloon battle, a squirt blaster shootout, kids’ art in the park, Fitch’s watermelon giveaway, rubber ducky races, a giant bubble blowfest, a lantern release and various exhibits and demonstrations. Schedules will be posted at the gate.

The Highbridge Homecoming Festival will also feature a packed schedule of free live musical entertainment.

After the opening ceremony at noon, Saturday’s performers will be Lightnin’ Rod & the Thunderbolts at 12:30 p.m., Kentucky South at 2:45 p.m., Jason Brock and Steve Burton at 6 p.m. and Country Memories at 7:30 p.m. On Sunday, Gospel Sing with The Southern Aires will take the stage at noon, Jessamine Creek Express will follow suit at 1:30 p.m. and The Moron Brothers will round out the performers at 3:15 p.m. before the closing ceremony at 5 p.m.
