Rosalee Buss 

Feb. 5, 1947 – July 13, 2017

Rosalee “Rose” Buss, 70, of Nicholasville, and wife of Kenneth Buss, died July 13, 2017 at the University of Kentucky Medical Center.

Born February 5, 1947 in Freeport, IL, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Lucille Tamling Kuhlemeyer. Rose was a homemaker, an accomplished pianist, and assisted Ken with his insurance business, but mostly will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

Survivors other than her husband include two children, Jody (Richard) Gibbs, Lexington, KY and Troy (Melinda) Buss, Louisville, KY; and five grandchildren, Nicole, Christian, Kaetlyn, Ryan, and Luke. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Melissa Buss. A Celebration of Life has been rescheduled from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 20, 2017 (originally scheduled for Aug. 13) at The Willows at Fritz Farm, 2710 Man O War Blvd., Lexington, KY 40515. Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, Lexington, KY is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to Bluegrass Care Navigators, 2312 Alexandria Dr., Lexington, KY 40504.

Jimmie Katherine Garrison Philpot, widow of Daniel, passed August 7. Funeral was 12:30 p.m. on Friday at Betts & West Funeral Home. Visitation was Friday.

Mary Cobb  

April 25, 1914 – Aug. 9, 2017

Mary E. Watkins Cobb, 103, widow of Charles R. Watkins and Price Cobb went to be with the Lord on August 9, 2017.

She was born Mary Elizabeth Williams on April 25, 1914 to Henry and Celia Scott Williams. She retired from Montgomery Ward and was a Founding Member of the Nicholasville Church of the Nazarene.

Mary was a great mother, house wife, fantastic cook, a role model and cherished wife. She greeted everyone with a smile and was always upbeat. Her comments on weight gain to family members were always comical. She lived a very long fulfilled happy life and will be dearly missed.

Her Spirit was of Faith in God, Love of Family and Laughter! Survivors include her son, Lloyd B Watkins and his wife, Peggy; a sister, Ruth (Wayne) Johns; a brother, Henry Milton (Louise) Williams; grandchildren, Christy M. Richie, John Burnside, great-grandchildren, Morgan, Makayla, Madison, Maci Richie and Devon, Andie, and Zane Burnside. She was preceded in death by a son that she raised Charles ‘Kenny’ Williams; sisters, Joe (Curtis) Cobb and Gertrude Williams and brothers, Estel (Mary) Williams, and Calvin Williams.

Funeral Services was 3 p.m. on Saturday at Betts & West Funeral Home. Interment was in the Maple Grove Cemetery.

Visitation was Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Casket Bearers were

Virgil Houp

Feb. 6, 1925 – Aug. 10, 2017

Virgil Bryant Houp 92, widower of Francis, died Thursday. Services was 2:30 p.m. on Monday at Camp Nelson. Visitation was Friday at Betts & West Funeral Home.

William Courtney

March 1, 1972 – Aug. 12, 2017

William Alan Courtney Jr., 45, husband of Stephanie Nicole Plantinga Courtney, passed Saturday, August 12, 2017.

He was born March 1, 1972 in Lexington, KY to William Alan Courtney Sr., and Rebecca Jean Lay McCarty and step father, Paul McCarty. He was a member of Light House Baptist Church. Family survivors are three children, Ellexis Courtney, Sierra Courtney, and Micah Golden, a grandchild, Liam Golden, two sister, Sierra Duh and Suzanne Courtney, a brother, Keith Lay, and other family members.

Service will be 4 p.m. on Friday at Lighthouse Baptist Church with Pastor Tommy Morrow officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the church. Betts & West Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Carl Corman

Nov. 11, 1926 – Aug. 12, 2017

A limb has fallen from the Corman Family Tree. Carl Corman, Jr. joined his beloved wife Ruby in eternal rest on Saturday, Aug. 12.

His family will be remembering the best times, the laughter, and the good life they shared. They will continue his heritage and traditions as they continue their lives. Carl, who was affectionately called “Unk” by many, was a native of Jessamine County born Nov. 11, 1926, to the late Carl, Sr. and Lucy Jacobs Corman. He was a retired employee of the Jessamine County Road Department and an avid farmer who loved raising tobacco and often could be found plowing his fields until the early morning hours after his work at the road department, as well as tending to his cows, going at least twice a day on his John Deer Gator to check on them.

He has been described as a hard working, honest, and loving family man and enjoyed coming to town to meet with his friends and catch up on the local news.

His sons-in-law received much teasing as he always gave them a hard time and told them he was keeping an eye on them.

Carl loved to attend the Nicholasville United Methodist Church, not missing a Sunday. No matter of how he was feeling, he seemed to improve on Sunday so he could attend.

He leaves to cherish his memories his children Carlotta Isaac, husband Calvin, Clay Thomas “Corky” Corman, wife Jane, Tammy Lynn Horton, husband George, Lucindy Cartwright, husband David, and Angelia Davis, husband Rodney; 13 grandchildren Michael Stephens, husband Brian, J. W. Corman, Derek Shane Isaac, Tommy Corman, wife Sydney, Christopher Corman, Lynn McCullar, Brent McCullar, Grant McCullar, Joseph Cartwright, wife Sherri, Kristin Mae Cartwright, Greg McClean, Jeffrey McClean, and Ethan Stewart, wife Lori; 11 great grandchildren; a brother Clay Corman; and special nephew Jackie Corman, along with several other nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a grandson Steven Cartwright; brother Jay Corman; and sisters-in-law Bernice Corman and Maudie B. Corman. 

A Remembrance Service will be at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 16, at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest beside his wife in Maple Grove Cemetery. Honoring him as pallbearers will be his grandsons. Honorary bearers will be Terry Lunsford, Terry Logan Lunsford, Ricky Aldridge, Willie Reed, Mark Reed, Jackie Corman, Brian Stephens, Nathan Hardin and Carl’s sons-in-laws.

The family will greet friends starting at 2 p.m. and ending at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug.15, at the funeral home. Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home is honored to serve Carl’s family.

Carol Garland  

July 27, 1939 – Aug. 14, 2017

Carol Perkins Garland, 78, widow of George Franklin Garland, Jr. passed, Monday, August 14, 2017 at Diversicare of Nicholasville after a long illness.

She was born on July 27, 1939 in Nicholasville, Kentucky to the late Robert C. and Ruth E. Broaddus Perkins. Carol attended the Nicholasville Christian Church and worked as a switchboard operator for many years. Survivors include two daughters, Dana Philpot and her husband Jule and Sherry Neergard and her husband Daryl and three grandchildren, Corey Neergard, Hanna and Chase Philpot and a brother, Bobby Perkins.

Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Betts & West Funeral Home with Tim Philpot officiating. Interment will be in the Richmond Cemetery.

Bearers will be Jule Philpot, Chase Philpot, Mark Perkins, Jason Perkins, Brian Perkins and Steve Dean.

The family would like to thank all the caregivers over the years at Diversicare. Contributions are suggested to the Southland Christian Church Children’s Backpack Program. Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Betts and West Funeral Home.

Rita Ann Shelley Carter, 77, wife of Donald, died Monday. Graveside 1 p.m. today at Bluegrass Memorial. Visitation was Wednesday at Betts & West Funeral Home.

Lonnie Coleman

June 17, 1944 – Aug. 15, 2017

Lonnie Coleman, 73, passed away August 15, 2017.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma Coleman, stepson, Christopher Miller, and his parents, Jewel Coleman and Katherine Bentley Coleman. He is survived by two sisters, Connie Coleman and Delora Barnes, Nicholasville, KY, one brother, Michael Coleman (Janet), of Reno, Nevada, 5 nieces, 1 nephew, many other loving family and friends and his beloved dog, Wiggles.  Funeral Service are entrusted with final care.
