West tops East for 10th straight win in rivalry series

West Jessamine had five hits and two walks in the fifth and sixth innings, scoring three runs in both and vaulting to a 9-4 win over East Jessamine last week. It followed up a 9-5 win just eight days prior and ran the Colts winning streak over their rivals to 10 games.

Spencer Blancet, Seth Taylor and Kendall Peters all scored in the fifth inning, and Blake Crockett, Braeden Lee and Skyler Cannady scored in the sixth as West broke open a 3-3 tie.

Cannady went 4-for-4 at the plate as the Colts had 12 hits. Taylor was 3-for-3 with three runs, hitting two doubles and a home run, and Cody Scales went 2-for-4 with four RBI.

Logan Gayheart led off the sixth inning with a home run for the Jaguars in his only at bat of the game.

Andrew Thompson and John Webb combined to go 4-for-7 at the top of the lineup with two runs and two RBI. The rest of the East lineup had three hits.

Peters took the win in relief, throwing the final three innings and allowing one earned run on one hit and two walks. Cole Hackney was the starter, working the first four innings. He gave up six hits and three runs.

Nathen Lynch was the losing pitcher, giving up two earned runs in 1/3 inning of relief. Thompson was the starter and lasted five innings, yielding 11 hits and seven runs with three walks.

MADISON CENTRAL 9, WEST 7 — Seth Taylor scored in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game, but Madison Central scored twice in the ninth inning to take the win.

The Colts had gone down 6-2 after 3 1/2 innings, but they rallied with two runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings.

Taylor went 2-for-5, including a solo home run. Kendall Peters and Cody Scales each had three hits, with Peters scoring twice and Scales driving in two. Skyler Cannady and Spencer Blancet each had two hits.

Ethan Evans got the start and lasted 3 2/3 innings. He allowed four earned runs on four hits and two walks with five strikeouts.

Calab Horton took the loss, working the final 5 1/3 innings, giving up three runs on six hits and three walks with a pair of strikeouts.

WEST 11, NEWPORT CENTRAL CATHOLIC 2 — Seth Taylor hit a grand slam in the bottom of the sixth inning, highlighting an eight-run inning for the Colts.

Braeden Lee, Spencer Blancet and Cody Scales led the Colts offense with two hits apiece. Lee, Blancet and Hunter Peel — the 1-2-3 batters — each scored twice.

Skyler Cannady got the complete game win on the mound. He gave up one earned run on four hits with one walk and six strikeouts.

MALE 19, EAST 13 — The Jaguars belted 12 hits — including a triple and home run from Isaac Ross — but it wasn’t enough as Male had 18 hits, including five home runs.

Ross drove in John Webb with a triple in the first inning, and he hit a two-run homer in the seventh. Ross finished 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBI.

Webb went 4-for-5 with a run and two RBI, and Tyler Sutton went 2-for-2 with a run and RBI.

The Jaguars rolled through five pitchers — Gunner Handy, Logan Gayheart, Hunter Griffith, Tyler Stafford and Tyler Sutton. Handy took the loss, giving up five runs on four home runs and three other hits in 2 2/3 innings. He struck out three and walked one.

CORBIN 10, WEST 6 — The Redhounds scored four runs in the fifth inning and held on as the Colts tried to rally with five in the bottom of the seventh.

Spencer Blancet hit a two-run double in the seventh, and Hunter Peel, Seth Taylor and Blake Crockett also had hits in the inning.

Crocket, Peel and Kendall Peters each had two hits for West, and all three hit doubles.

The Colts went through three pitchers. Cole Hackney gave up three runs on six hits in the start, lasting three innings. Kendall Peters gave up three runs on five walks in an inning, and Braeden Lee allowed four runs in three innings.
