Last week, nine high school juniors whose households are served by Blue Grass Energy joined 136 other students from across the state for the Kentucky Rural Electric Frankfort Youth Tour. The group spent the day touring the state capital and learning about government.

Blue Grass Energy sends 10 students to the nation’s capital for the Washington Youth Tour each June. Their educational journey begins in Frankfort for a look at the state’s government system.

“We’re committed to the communities we serve,” said Blue Grass Energy’s Vice President of Member Services Barry Drury. “A first-hand experience in Frankfort and Washington enhances the students’ understanding of our government, and possibly inspires them to become our future leaders.”

In Frankfort, the students toured the Governor’s Mansion, the Capitol Building and met government officials, including State Representative and House Majority Floor Leader, Jonathan Shell. They also visited the Kentucky History Museum and Old Capitol Building.

Blue Grass Energy’s 2017 Youth Tour representatives are Annah Valenta, Ty Hutchens and Alexis Koteras, all of Nicholasville, Kailey Boyles of Lexington, Hanna Creech and Whitley Lemons of Cynthiana, Logan Bechanan of Carlisle, Nelson Paul of Paris, Marissa Stephens of Georgetown and Dakota Baker of Paint Lick.

High school juniors living with a parent or guardian served by Blue Grass Energy are eligible to apply each year. For more information about the program, visit bgenergy.com.
