Cecil J. Humphrey

Aug. 21, 1929 – March 4, 2017

A limb has fallen from the Humphrey family tree and a voice can be heard saying to remember the best times, my laughter, stories, and the good life we have lived together. Cecil “June” Humphrey, 87, loving husband of Betty Jean Cooper Humphrey for 67 years, left his earthly home on Saturday, March 4, 2017. He was a native of Jessamine County, born Aug. 21, 1929 to the late Duard and Lottie Lee Bowman Humphrey. June served as Elder at the Bethel Christian Church, was a lifetime and charter member of the Jessamine County Saddle Club, as well as the Bluegrass Horse Pulling Association, the Kentucky Farm Bureau, and was honored to be a member of Fitch’s IGA Breakfast Club.  He leaves to continue his heritage and traditions his children Wayne Humphrey, wife Debbie, Jean Ann Hammond, Karen Detherage, husband Kevin, and Susan “Susie” Miller, husband Paul; grandchildren Steven J. Hammond, Shannon P. Miller, Jason Wayne Humphrey, wife Margaret, Emily Anne Wheeler, husband Gerald, Ashley Miller, and Lanie Jane Humphrey; and his five great-grandchildren. June is also survived by a sister, Virginia “Cricket” Shelton, husband Bobby, and has numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family members. He was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Humphrey; brothers Louis Bowman, Robert L. Charles, and Bowman Humphrey; and sisters Addie Lee Black and Dorothy Wiess. A Remembrance Service was held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8 at Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Bales and Rev. Roy Lauter officiating. June was laid to rest beside his son in Maple Grove Cemetery.  Honoring him as pallbearers were his grandsons Steven, Shannon, Jason, Dusty, Tristan, and Joseph “Shaggy.” Honorary bearers were the Bethel Christian Church Members, Leonard Fitch and the IGA Breakfast Club, as well as Jonathan Snowden and Carl Corman, Jr. His family received friends from 2 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 7. Donations may be made in his memory to the Bethel Christian Church, 1991 Phillips Lane Rt. 1267, Nicholasville, KY 40356. Hager & Cundiff Funeral Home is honored to serve the Humphrey family.
