Tax season is here, and free help is being offered at the Jessamine County Public Library.

The library is currently a host site for the AARP Tax-Aide program.

Community members can receive help on their tax returns from an IRS trained and certified volunteer between 9:15 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. on Mondays and Wednesdays.

“The library has been a host site for the Tax-Aide program in the past,” Kelly Little, Community Relations Coordinator for the Jessamine County Public Library, said. “Last year there were 200 returns done.”

Little said community members can get their taxes done for free with confidence knowing the people are training with the latest information.

“This is a great resource for the community,” she said.

Those wanting assistance must bring their Social Security card and photo identification for themselves and their dependents.

“People are also encouraged to arrive before 11:30 a.m. on each Monday and Wednesday,” Little said. “It is a first-come, first-served, basis.”

The program is also set-up so that everyone has privacy and everyone’s tax information will be kept private.

The volunteers began on Feb. 1 and will continue answering tax-related questions until April 12.

Those taking advantage of the AARP Tax-Aide program are asked to bring all forms related to income and deductions such as W-2’s, health insurance, unemployment compensation statements, all 1099 forms, child care information, receipts or canceled checks if itemizing deductions and a copy of the return from the previous year.
