Robert Wallace

Rev. Dr. Robert Lee Wallace, 89, of Richmond, passed away Sunday, Jan. 29 at Telford Terrace in Richmond.

Born July 7, 1927, at Quinton, Kentucky in Pulaski County, he was the son of the late Everett Arnold, and Eula Mae Cole Wallace. Dr. Wallace received his BA degree from Berea College in 1950, his M. Div. degree from Duke Divinity School, Duke University in 1955 and a D.D. from Union College in 1981. He served 55 years in the ministry, as Pastor in the United Methodist Church from 1957 until retirement, serving in Greensboro, NC, Williamsburg, KY, Middleboro, KY, Lynch, KY, Danville, KY, Fort Thomas, KY, Cynthiana, KY, Nicholasville, KY and the First United Methodist Church of Richmond, KY, from 1985 to 1992. He had served on many conference boards and held several positions, while contributing several series of lessons for the United Methodist church School publications. He also enjoyed serving in several civic organizations, and was a trustee of Lindsey Wilson College for 12 years.

He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, where he served in the airborne division and intelligence operations, from 1945 to 1948 and the Army Reserves from 1948 to 1952.

Dr. Wallace was first married to the former Phyllis Kuhlke, who preceded him in death in 1975. He then was married to the former Ginger Walmsley, in 1977.

Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Ginger Wallace of Richmond; two daughters, Mara Wallace and Kimberly Hall; three sons, David Klee, Bruce Wallace and Robert Klee; two sisters, Ruth Wallace and Nancy Munchhof; two brothers, Rex and John Wallace; 11 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one brother, Pat Wallace.

Funeral service for Rev. Wallace will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 6 at the First United Methodist Church in Richmond, with Rev. Bruce Nettleton, Rev. Gene Strange and Rev. Mark Girrard officiating. Burial will follow in the Richmond Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and after 10 a.m. Monday at the church.
