East Brannon Road construction ready to begin

The extension of East Brannon Road to Tates Creek Road is now ready to begin construction.
“This new road is designed to improve safety, alleviate traffic, connect highways and create economic development in Jessamine County,” Senator Tom Buford, 22nd District said in a press release on Friday.
Buford said for the past year, he and Secretary of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Greg Thomas, have worked to resolve all the right of way needs and taken the steps to avoid any penalties to the contractor.
The new highway will eliminate the heavy and unsafe traffic on Ash Grove Pike, Buford said in the release.
“I am incredibly proud of the role Governor Bevin and Secretary Thomas have played in making sure this road becomes reality,” he said.
A study to begin the project was conducted in 2013. In August of 2016, the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet paid $625,000 in damages to The Allen Company of Lexington — a highway contractor — because land for the road project had not yet been secured before the deadline to start construction.
The beginning of construction for the project comes within months of the deadline that the state agreed to pay the highway contractor another $850,000 if the work for the project had not begun.
